Stats:[ul]
[]SAT: 2290 - 690CR, 800M, 800W
[]SAT II: 800 Math II, 790 Chinese, 750 Chemistry
[]ACT: N/A
[]AP US History, AP Chemistry, AP Calculus, AP Music Theory, AP Chinese all 5’s.
[]GPA: As of midterm senior year, 10.06 out of 12, which is just above an A-.
[]Rank: Top 20-40%, I don’t know exactly. My school sends 30% of students to Ivies.
[li]Other Tests (AMC, AP, IB): AMC 10: 132, AMC 12: 117, AIME: 7
[/li]

[/ul]Subjective[ul]
[]Essays: Really unique and well-written. Described a friend’s suicide threat for the ethics question and wrote about shooting parabolic streams of water at a friend for the “quirky ways to have fun” essay. For the long math/sci interest essay, I took the reader through my process of solving a challenging geometry problem and wrote about the impact of math contests on my perspective and appreciation for math. All my essays were really meaningful and conveyed deeper messages.
[]Teacher Recs: One from chemistry teacher, one from English teacher. Both teachers respected me - English teacher has told me that I’m one of the most deep-probing and high-striving students he’s taught. Chemistry teacher highly respects my work ethic and has nominated me for the Rensselaer medal.
[]Counselor Rec: I’m not sure about this one.
[]Supplementary Material: I taught through a prestigious and very challenging summer teacher internship in 2010, and the director praised me highly throughout the entire program as well as afterwards. He wrote my supplementary recommendation and was really excited about it.
[li]Hook(recruited athlete, legacy, Nobel Prize): Spectacular math contest performances - placed at the top of the local league, high score New England meet, qualified for AIME (and scored 6+) every year since 8th grade
[/li]

[/ul]Personal[ul]
[]Location: New England
[]High School Type: Very, very competitive private day school
[]Ethnicity: Asian
[]Gender: Female

[/ul]Other[ul]
[]Extracurriculars: Yoga (super-dedicated, practiced since I was 14); teaching middle school math during the school year; teaching Chinese classes over the summer; Math team; Physics team
[]Awards: JETS Engineering competition ranked very highly in state and very highly nationally; Rensselaer medalist 2010; won my school’s 9/10th grade math award (most accomplished underclassman) 2009
[li]Advice? Commiserations? Feel like bragging?:[/ul][/li]My essays and recommendations were incredibly thoughtful and insightful, and my contest achievements and awards are spectacular, but my GPA was probably my downfall.
Maybe if I mentioned my USAMO qualification from middle school, it would have made a difference.
I don’t know. It’s impossible to know, because it’s out of our control.
All we can do is our best. So I’m just going to keep on doing my best and whatever happens will happen…

Good luck everyone else.
