@supbros111 I believe they reevaluate the applications and decide from there
Waitlisted, thought this was better than what I expected but when I went on college niche, it said they accept ~5000 applicants, waitlist ~5000 more and only accept a single digit of students. It really does sound like some false hope…
But congrats to everyone got in!
@terr24lr I also got to choose priority waitlist. I applied to comp sci… I’m not sure whether it is just a false hope or a real chance to get in.
so, the priority waitlist is binding or not?
@ALeynng @terr24lr I read that in 2005 CMU took 70% of people from their priority waitlist and in 2008 they took over 50% ! I couldn’t find any recent statistics though (if anyone else has any please let me know) So I’m sure they don’t take that many anymore, but they probably take a decent number!
@supbros111 I don’t know… I think most of the people in this thread got a chance to choose btw priority and ordinary waitlists… Did you also get to choose priority waitlist?
@pinkinga Where did you get that info from?
@supbros111 I think PW is binding and you will have to deposit 800 dollars within 72 hours if you get in. So don’t stay on PW if CMU is not your first choice.
My online application portal says I’m waitlisted, but I just received my FAT letter in the mail telling me I’m accepted into Carnegie Mellon Class of 2020. So currently, I have no idea whether I’m admitted or on the waitlist. Is this happening to anyone else?
@thereal6god Can you post your online decision letter
“Thank you for the opportunity to review your application to Carnegie Mellon’s Mellon College of Science
for Fall 2016. Each year, Carnegie Mellon receives an increasing number of applications from very
talented students. Because of space limitations and the large number of students who are interested in the
Mellon College of Science, we are unable to offer you admission at this time and have placed your name
on our waiting list.
It is important for you to know that every year some students are successful in gaining admission from the
waiting list. Because of your qualifications, we are offering you the opportunity to be placed on our priority
waiting list. If you choose to participate in our priority waiting list option, you will be among the first
students admitted to Carnegie Mellon from the waiting list.
The priority waiting list is for those students who know that Carnegie Mellon is their first choice. All
students who choose to be on our priority waiting list will know of our admission decisions by May 6, 2016.
This will give our applicants who have been admitted enough time to make college plans by the May 1
General Candidate’s Reply date.
If you choose our priority waiting list option, you must submit the waiting list reply form to the Office of
Admission found at www.cmu.edu/admission/waiting by April 11, 2016. If you are admitted from the priority
waiting list we must receive an $800 enrollment deposit within 72 hours of your admission notification. If
we are not able to admit you from the priority waiting list you will stay on our regular waiting list.
Candidates on the regular waiting list will be notified of an admission decision by June 1, 2016.

Is it too late to apply for financial aid if you haven’t?
@thereal6god idk this is odd…maybe you can try CMU’s waitlist reply form and see whether you are on the waitlist. The enrollment form works too.
@thereal6god Or you can just call
@ALeynng Thank you, I’m going to call the office of admissions as soon as they’re open on Monday.
@thereal6god Wait… Mine says they will let me know their final decision by May 4. Why does yours say May 6?? This is confusing…
@thereal6god Nvmd… It is May 6.lol
Does anyone know the enrollment yield of SCS? According to a thread in 2012, SCS had a very low yield of 38% despite it is one of the top comp sci program in the world. I want to know the current yield… If it is still low, shouldn’t students in waiting list (or priority waiting list) get chances to get off the waitlist?
Based on the CMU common data set for the current school year, only 4 students in total were accepted off the wait list of 2835 people for an astounding 0.141% acceptance rate from the waitlist. Here’s the source: https://www.cmu.edu/ira/CDS/pdf/cds_2015-16/c-first-time-first-year-admission.pdf
In the previous 2 years, the acceptance rate off the waitlist was about 4%. Doesn’t specify PWL or regular so I’m assuming it’s just everyone waitlisted.
@thereal6god On the back of my FAT packet was a hard copy of my acceptance letter. What did the acceptance letter on the back of your FAT packet say?
