Decision: Rejected RD

Date Applied: mid december
Date Accepted/Rejected: March 31

Stats:
SAT: didn't take
ACT: 28
SAT IIs: didn't take
GPA: 3.4/4.0 school doesn't weigh
Rank: school doesn't really rank either...im in the top 40% though. Rank doesn't really matter at a small school like mine though. There are seriously only 12 people in my graduating class.
Other stats: Honor Roll (9,11,12)
Subjective:
Essays: Probably the best part of my application. I even received an email from an admissions officer that I had I been contact with who said she really liked my essay. Writing is probably my best strength. I sent in two essays, actually.
Teacher Recs: I didn't read them, but I assume they were good? I had 3 sent in; one from my english teacher, one from my spanish teacher, and one from my art teacher.
Counselor Rec: I did read this one. He wrote me a really nice rec!

Extracurriculars:
-Have held various student government positions throughout HS (president in 9, VP in 10, secretary in 12)
-Have been involved in the visual arts for all four years of HS, joined National Art Honor Society in 10, became VP in 12. I have organized art events in my school and community, started new events related to art, and even organized my school's first ever "poetry and coffeehouse night."
-Have studied Japanese outside of school at community college for 2 years. Studied abroad in Japan this past summer. I wrote a 625 japanese character speech for a speech contest this april.
-Am doing a senior masterwork. Masterwork is an optional program for seniors in which they design and propose a project their junior year and work on it all year. I made a graphic novel, integrating my interest in art, creative writing, and japanese graphic novels.

Interview: On-campus. Met with assistant dean of admission. I seriously had an amazing interview. She even remembered me when she came to visit my school last fall, and was "excited to see my application."
Hook (if any): I've done A LOT of stuff with the visual arts. Seriously. It's my passion (outside of my academic life.) I've worked hard to promote the visual arts in my school and community, and I feel that was evident in my resume. Um...I'm from AZ? My masterwork thing. Idk.

Other Factors/Hook?:

Scholarships:

General Comments: I can't think of anything I else that I should put here that I haven't already mentioned...I didn't apply for fin.aid though.

To be totally honest, I'm kind of saddened/frustrated by my rejection. I really liked the school and showed a lot of interest. I also established a connection with an assistant of admission through an interview, and she really liked me and "wanted me to be at Whitman." I wrote a good why whitman/diversity essay that I worked really hard on. And as I mentioned, this officer even emailed me in Feb saying she really liked my essay. I knew my GPA and scores were pretty low for Whitman standards, but I everyone I met in admissions insisted that Whitman was more interested in personality, talent, essay, etc. Gah, I really liked their art department and study abroad options too! Everything looked good, but I got rejected! Oh well...
