Teacher Rec(s): very good i think
Counselor Rec: probably good

School Type, Average Stats of School (if available): Private, good number get into Rice

Why you think you were accepted: lots of demonstrated interest, interview, fairly well-rounded app, recs, essay was very "Rice"
Didn't have CC-like, 800 scores. I think it proves that you can still get into a sick school w/o those if you're Asian. My advice to all applicants: dont let CC corrupt your mind on what college admissions offices look for. At a school like Rice, immerse yourself in the essay, demonstrate interest, get an interview especially if you are someone who can impress in person, have solid scores within their range and you're set. I'm psyched, gonna go out and celebrate, peace.

Congratulations to those who were accepted! For those who were deferred, well, I didn't get accepted until the end of June last year, so there's always hope.

Accepted. Really hoping for a scholarship of some type. crossing fingers and toes.

accepted!!!

i dont really feel like listing all my stats but to all the people who got deferred/rejected: i applied to an early action school a few months ago (my first choice) and got deferred and was utterly heartbroken. had i gotten in, i probably would have gone there even though i was going to apply RD to other schools. so after that i sort of lost a lot of my interest in the school and now am very seriously considering rice (which was #2ish on my list anyway). anyway i dont' mean to be a jerk and rub this in your faces, but just know that it does really really suck at first to be deferred (i can't speak for rejected, but i'm sure it's the same), but it DOES GET BETTER. maybe you were just not meant to be at rice. by looking at everyone's stats, it doesn't seem to me that you guys are under-qualified. the whole college process is a crapshoot and is based on so much more than just who deserves it and who doesn't. so do what i did and cry for a few hours (even thru my grandfather's birthday dinner that night), talk to your close friends, and do your best to come to terms with it. ice cream or cookies usually help
best of luck with the rest of your schools, and i'm sure you all will eventually be happy wherever you end up :)

deferred....
UT engineering sent me a scholarship in the mail today, and it is highly unlikely i will get anything from rice at this point. UT is looking better and better, especially since i'll be paying about $100k less.
