Official Regular Decions Thread

I got my letter today.. after a deferral

Decision: Accepted!

Stats:

SAT: 2250

SAT IIs: 720/680/670/660

GPA: 4.45 weighted, 4.0 unweighted

Rank: 1/487

Other stats: 4 on computer science, 3's on english, history, chemistry

Subjective:

Essays: not very good, did it in one hour

Teacher Recs: did not see

Counselor Rec: he said i didn't take the most selective courses

Hook (if any): 500+ hours of lab work including microsurgery on mice. 150+ volunteer hours, logo designs for national companies and organizations.

Location/Person:

State or Country: Texas

School Type: Large Public (2500+ students)

Ethnicity: White

Gender: Male

Other Factors: I believe i was deferred because I did not do an interview and they were protecting yield.
General Comments: I'm really excited. I hope to see you guys at the owl weekend.

congrats!! see you at owl weekend

Man Im worried that someone like you got deferred...

Comparison:
My SAT is similar, but my class rank is MUCH worse. (55/500)

My SAT II's are a little better overall, 4 4's and a 5 for AP tests

No real hook to speak of.

No Interview

Essay, out of all the schools I did I think Rice was better written and had more of an intimate touch than most... though it was't great.

Rec's are outstanding from what I understand.

Average EC's, Debate Captain, some local volunteer stuff.

Is not having an interview that bad?

There's a chance that a good interview could sway the decision if it comes down to the line, and that's one reason why they're recommended. But it's not required and the interview is (from what I understand) not weighed heavily. Plenty of people are accepted without one.

so if we are in california we should get ours soom probably?

Decision: Accepted! (mail, it's still not online)

Other stats: blaaa...AP scores don't matter

Subjective:

Essays: umm ok

Teacher Recs: did not see

Counselor Rec: ditto

Hook (if any): i am from pa (seems that it's a lot easier to get in from out of state?) and my sister and brother in law are rice profs

State or Country: PA

School Type: small, not very competitive public

Ethnicity: white

Gender: female

I saw this and thought -- what school would reject these numbers? When you graduate, think about a career at Princeton Testing, as you know more about how to ace their exams than just about everyone alive.

Rice, actually. Numbers ARE NOT everything about a student NOR the most important factor, and thankfully Rice recognizes this when they consider their applicants.

Not meaning to imply that s'vrone fits this category, but bookworm-number-crunchers who only care about GPA are boring people.

those arent that important... however that with val is really strong.

peopel dont compare yourselves to to other people. to me the stat posting is so pointless. everybody has the same exact things. the high sat and sat2's etc, which makes the whole thing redundant. and yes to the person that said that there is no way a school would reject high numbers the answer is yes, rice would. in their new brochure it says it very big and in caps "WE ARE NOT JUST LOOKING FOR VALEDICTORIANS, WE ARE LOOKING FOR LEADERS, VOLUNTEERS, ....ETC" people that are all about playing the system are boring people, a number is not a measure of overall intelligence at all. At rice, they look at everything as a whole. but congrats to all!

ACCEPTED!!!!!!!! YAY!

stats are pointless, the process is over y'all. CONGRATS to all who were accepted and good luck to those waitlisted!
