[] ACT: 34 (35 science 35 math 35 writing 31 reading)
[] SAT II: 800 math II 800 physics
[] Unweighted GPA (out of 4.0): unsure, weighted is 97.41/100
[] Rank (percentile if rank is unavailable): not ranked, top 10%, estimated 5/150
[] AP (place score in parenthesis): Chemistry (5), U.S. History (5), Physics B (5), Psychology (5)
[] IB (place score in parenthesis):none
[] Senior Year Course Load: four APs, two additional APs to be self-studied, two elective classes
[] Major Awards (USAMO, Intel etc.): National Merit Semi-finalist
[/ul]Subjective:[ul]
[] Extracurriculars (place leadership in parenthesis): Indoor and Outdoor Track (all years, varsity), Tae Kwon Do (2nd degree black belt), School Newspaper, Philosophy Club,
[] Job/Work Experience: Minor jobs over summers, not many hours. One at Tae Kwon Do and another at a lumber yard.
[] Volunteer/Community service: 170 hours, mainly soup kitchen
[] Summer Activities: working, practicing Tae Kwon Do, two small one week programs
[] Essays: one was fantastic (about how a Jesuit changed my life), the other was good but did not flow perfectly well and had one clear typo
[] Teacher Recommendation: good I would expect, but did not see them
[] Counselor Rec: very good, I am close with my counselor
[] Additional Rec: none
[] Interview: went well, I said "um" and "like" too much. But we talked for about an hour (him more than me), mainly about how great Georgetown is! Also, I wore khakis with a button down and a v-neck sweater
[/ul]Other[ul]
[] State (if domestic applicant): NY
[] Country (if international applicant):
[] School Type: College
[] Ethnicity: white
[] Gender: male
[] Income Bracket: unsure, middle-class?
[] Hooks (URM, first generation college, etc.): grandfather and uncle attended
[/ul]Reflection[ul]
[] Strengths: scores, my workload, reccomendations, (legacy?)
[] Weaknesses: essay typo!, did not stand out in anything on resume. instead I was involved in a lot.
[] Why you think you were accepted/waitlisted/rejected: Who knows, really? I think I am good academically, I never really expected this because I do not excell in anything in particuar. Again, who knows?
[/ul]General Comments: I worked hard through those first three years of HS. A lot of sleepless nights. I'm glad I made it and I wish the best for everyone.

Decision: Accepted SFS EA

Objective:[ul]
[] SAT I (breakdown): 1520/2280; 800CR 720MT 760WR superscored. (Lowest scores = 750CR 710MT 680WR) I took it twice.
[] ACT: 34
[] SAT II: 770 World History 760 French 740 Math II
[] GPA (out of 100): 98.55
[] Rank (percentile if rank is unavailable): Top 5%
[] AP (place score in parenthesis): French (3) English Lang (5) US History (5)
[] Senior Year Course Load: AP English Lit, AP Calc AB, AP Stat, AP US Gov, Creative Writing
[] Major Awards (USAMO, Intel etc.): National Merit Semifinalist, Wellesley College Book Award
[/ul]Subjective:[ul]
[] Extracurriculars (place leadership in parenthesis): Photogenics, a highschool fashion magazine (creator and editor-in-chief); Theatre (director, lead roles); Peer Ministry (leader of office of community outreach); Forensics (9,10. The team had to disband in my junior year.) Varsity Track (10); Varsity Cheerleading (11, for fun); French Club
[] Job/Work Experience: Lifeguard at an inner-city pool for three years.
[] Volunteer/Community service: Peer Ministry stuff
[] Summer Activities: lifeguarding
[] Essays: Personal Statement was excellent. I really liked it. The SFS essay- not my favorite. It was on the wealth divide in India, and it started with an anecdote about a Vogue India shoot. I'm guessing the fashion reference helped with my resume.
[] Teacher Recommendation: Not allowed to read them, but I have a feeling it was pretty good. She was the kind of teacher who told us, on the first day of class, that she never handed out hundreds. I had a 100 average for one marking period, and we had at least 3 essays in it.
[] Counselor Rec: Again, not allowed to read it. My guidance counselor is awesome though; I'm pretty sure it was fantastic.
[] Additional Rec: N/A
[] Interview: Fantastic. Lasted about an hour, and he said that I was a great candidate. My parents also knew the guy, and he sent them an e-mail the next day that said I was the best candidate he interviewed in his 35 years of being an interviewer. I think I'm going to send him an e-mail back thanking him now.
[/ul]Other[ul]
[] State (if domestic applicant): Upstate NY
[] School Type: Small Catholic, about 700 kids. Everybody ends up going to college if they go here.
[] Ethnicity: white
[] Gender: F
[] Income Bracket: Middle class, almost upper, but not quite. Hopefully good enough for financial aid.
[] Hooks (URM, first generation college, etc.): Small legacy. My sister just graduated last year.
[/ul]Reflection[ul]
[] Strengths: ECs, grades, guessing recs.
[] Weaknesses: Haven't taken a million APs. My school only allows students to take APs in their junior and senior years, and I'm not the kind of student who is willing to take 6 APs in one year.
[] Why you think you were accepted/waitlisted/rejected: Well rounded, interesting candidate.
[/ul]General Comments:

For all of you who were deferred: Good Luck!!! Gtown is a great college, and I hope you all are able to get in RD. If not, I'm sure you'll end up loving whatever college you end up going to!

For all of the juniors and/or overenthusiastic elementary school kids looking at this: Always try to stand out from the crowd! I made something for myself by starting a fashion magazine, even though fashion isn't generally considered an academic/intellecual pursuit. Just do what you love, and you'll be fine.

If you think you won't do good on the SAT, don't give up hope. I took a Princeton review course, and I was getting 600s throughout the course. When I took the PSAT, I got a 222. The SAT is really not a big deal, just try to study and focus on it.

Now, off to celebrate!!!

[] Senior Year Course Load: Leadership Zero Period, World Literature/Composition, AP Gov, AP Econ (Second Semester; Econ/Gov are Sem. long classes), AP Latin 4, AP Art History, AP Statistics (Last math class I can take at school, taken the rest), AP Biology
[] Major Awards (USAMO, Intel etc.): Nothing major, school awards, National Merit Commendation, Honor Roll, etc.
[/ul]Subjective:[ul]
[] Extracurriculars (place leadership in parenthesis): Class Council (Vice President), ASB (Senior Class VP), Junior Classical League (Publicity), Woodbridge Live Anchor (School TV Program), Volleyball - club and school. Forgot to report Academic Decathlon :(
[] Job/Work Experience: Worked for the city's Girls Softball Association
[] Volunteer/Community service: Relay For Life (Team Captain) Two years in a row, planned on doing it this year as well
[] Summer Activities: Nothing special, Leadership Camp with ASB, family trips, etc.
[] Essays: The personal statement was decent, I'd give it a 7/10. The College Essay was kinda bad :/
[] Teacher Recommendation: Don't know, but it should have been pretty solid. Given by my Latin teacher whom I've had for essentially 4 years
[] Counselor Rec: Also unsure, but assumed to be equally strong
[] Additional Rec: N/A
[] Interview: Solid interview. The interviewer and I had a ton in common, lasted a good hour. Same HS extracurriculars, sports, even from the same town.
[/ul]Other[ul]
[] State (if domestic applicant): CA
[] Country (if international applicant):
[] School Type: Large Public (Approx. 2200 students)
[] Ethnicity: Japanese-American
[] Gender: Male
[] Income Bracket: Upper Middle, living with single "stay-at-home" mom
[] Hooks (URM, first generation college, etc.): Nothing really
[/ul]Reflection[ul]
[] Strengths: I think extracurriculars, recommendations and interview
[] Weaknesses: Essay, probably GPA and CR/Math score. Considering the level of math I'm at, I definitely should've done better.
[] Why you think you were accepted/waitlisted/rejected: In all honesty, just not up to caliber. As the 15th (well in this case the 13th) neared, I became more and more okay with the reality that I was probably getting deferred. It was bizarre.

Well, time to figure out my "additional information."
[/ul]General Comments:

Decision: Deferred College

Objective:[ul]
[] SAT I (breakdown): n/a
[] ACT: 34 comp (31E, 34R, 34M, 35S)
[] SAT II: US History: 700, Literature: 710, Math 2: 770
[] Unweighted GPA (out of 4.0): 3.58
[] Rank (percentile if rank is unavailable): 77/513 or top 15%
[] AP (place score in parenthesis): World (4), English Language/Comp (4), US (5)
[] IB (place score in parenthesis): none
[] Senior Year Course Load: AP English, Creative Writing, Instrumental Ensemble, AP Calc AB, AP Econ Micro/Macro, Harmony and Arranging (Intro to Music Theory)
[] Major Awards (USAMO, Intel etc.): None, really?
[/ul][ b]Subjective:[ul]
[] Extracurriculars (place leadership in parenthesis): Marching Band (section leader), Symphonic Band (principal), Orchestra (principal), Jazz Band (co-principal), Writing Works! Tutor, Debate (leader, research editor), Featured Editorialist, Literary Magazine Contributor
[] Job/Work Experience: I worked at Osco for a bit.
[] Volunteer/Community service: I used to do volunteering with my Jewish Youth Group before extra curriculars took over. I still volunteer as a writing tutor on a biweekly basis with my school to teach kids how to edit their own papers.
[] Summer Activities: All music-related. I can't afford to do things like JSA.
[] Essays: Best I've written.
[] Teacher Recommendation: Probably good.
[] Counselor Rec: Probably all right.
[] Additional Rec: Didn't have one. Will definitely get an additional one.
[] Interview: It went okay. We got along all right but we didn't have anything in common. He was a finance major and I'm looking at English. He was fluent in Spanish, and I'm a very strong French speaker. Parts were awkward because he couldn't necessarily relate to the things I went through in HS and vice versa with Gtown.

Other*[ul]
[] State (if domestic applicant): Illinois
[] Country (if international applicant):
[] School Type: Public, very competitive
[] Ethnicity: Caucasian, also Jewish
[] Gender: Female
[] Income Bracket: Upper middle class, but slowly falling.
[] Hooks (URM, first generation college, etc.): None. I have to rely on myself to get into college.
[/ul]
Reflection[ul]
[] Strengths: Essays, ECs, Test scores
[] Weaknesses: GPA. It wasn't from laziness. I try very hard, but I don't believe in that grade-grubbing, gpa-boosting mentality. I don't take my music classes pass/fail and that lowers my gpa actually. I try my best but I don't go to the extremes. Cheating is rampant at my school, and I've done what I've been able to do based on what I know of a subject.
[] Why you think you were accepted/waitlisted/rejected: My GPA is too low. I probably look very lazy to them.
[/ul]
General Comments:* I'm sad even though I saw it coming a mile away. It hurts to be deferred. I'm thinking of sending an additional writing portfolio along with my letter of intent. Maybe an additional rec or two. I'll try my best, I suppose, but I'm not hoping for much. Congrats to those accepted.
