Official Class of 2014 University of Michigan Decisions Thread

yeah, im screwed too. 3.592 UW GPA, 4.07 W GPA, 34 ACT, 2250 SAT

my GPA is gonna kill me =/

When does Michigan let you know if you’re invited to the honors college (after already being accepted to LSA?)

aw, good luck to the rest of you!
And don’t worry! I got quite a few B’s as the years went along, since I kept on taking harder classes and whatnot (10 APs counting this year), so maybe that’s why they want to see my 7th semester grades (which…I don’t see being that amazing right now).
While they have a holistic approach, I don’t think they have the time to look into why a certain GPA might be low. idk.

If I didn’t get that email saying i’m early am I screwed? I got everything in by October 20th

Charlie, I got in OOS with a 3.5 and 2300. I’m not sure if you’re definitely screwed, lol.

@strife: is your 3.5 gpa weighted or uw?

@syc: VERY very surprised you didn’t get in. I know kids from Jersey that got in with much much lower then you, but hey you never know I guess. Were your essays alright?

yeah, my essays were actually pretty good. I’m definitely not a bad writer (unless they deferred me for going over the " apprx. 250 word" limit by 10-15 words lol)

Lol yeah but you’ll get into some good schools though man, 30 on the ACT is legit and a 4.2 is awesome. Your making me nervious now cause I only have a 3.8 W, 33 ACT and while the coach who recruited me says he’d be surprised if i dont get in, I’m still paranoid as hell now haha.

g’luck =)

Hopefully, my ED school will make me feel better about this.

My school doesn’t have an unweighted GPA. It does a strange thing where AP classes are give a +.4, and that’s all the weighting we get.

UM no longer recalculates GPA, so whatever it “says” on your transcript will be the GPA taken into consideration.

@ MI2014
WHAT? are you sure? how do you know…?

^there’s info on their site & stuff about that. it’s a new policy, & starts this year.

again, was everybody who is considered EA supposed to have gotten an email about that…?

Well, I’m getting all kinds of worried… My app is listed as received september 21. I have a 3.5 UW, 3.8 W, 33 ACT, 2250 SAT. I know my GPA is really low but I’m in state with good essays, solid leadership in my ECs and a really good rec. I’d at least expect a deferal by now, but I haven’t heard anything other than a confirmation in early october that they had received my application…

@strife15: At our school we get +.02 for each AP class we take, so…yeah.

i know that the answer is probably yes, but im going to ask anyway…

does a 29 act composite completely kill my chances? (oos)
(on some sections i got a 34, but the science killed me time wise)
i have an amazing gpa, a ton of aps (with 5s), and stellar extra curricular activities
and really great essays too

im just a really terrible test taker… i get suuuuper anxious and can never focus

NO, Michigan looks really holistically- if your GPA and others is as good as you say it will make up for it…rank too assuming your school ranks (mine doesn’t)

it falls in their score range, why would you assume it would kill you…?

^^because there are 25000 apps being sent in and only 12000 get accepted. and only 5600 spots available. and michigan is getting more selective, as in more kids with high SAT/ACT scores are applying.

jackdaniels, they JUST changed that (recalculating GPA). When we went to the “what seniors need to do & when” session at my son’s school in late August, the UM rep spoke. He said GPA is recalculated. When the UM rep visited his school in early October, though, he said they no longer recalculate GPA.
