That’s what she said, but I’m pretty sure someone who answers the phones doesn’t pull the trigger when it comes to running the batch decision update.

i have just joined CC, and have been reading the posts since the start. what do you think my chances are?

i will DIE if we have to wait much longer

you’re competitive but not for sure. i say match.

can anyone explain why they would not have enough? Realistically speaking, even if they had significantly less applicants this year for some reason they still should have enough to meet their ‘quota’ because i’m pretty sure the majority of people who applied in october haven’t gotten a decision back yet. if they had enough to fit their quote in the first batch, i don’t see why they wouldn’t now (i doubt their were more august, september applicants then all of october)

furthermore, if this IS true (the quota thing) … is that to our advantage of disadvantage? I’m thinking this could either mean they decided to bring up their expectations A LOT this year and none of us are good enough, or maybe a lot of people really didn’t apply early this year. any insight?

unfortunately, doesn’t look like it’s coming out today. we may have to wait until early next week…

well, jackdaniels i’m not sure if I really believe this quota explanation anyway. i doubt they raised their standards too much. if anything, this would be a tough year for them because they might have fewer out of state applicants than usual due to the economy.

i’m not totally sure the answers we heard from the people on the phone make too much sense…but no one really knows.

we’ll have to see what happens tomorrow too. is there a history of decisions coming out on any other day besides thursdays or fridays?

keldo - you’re certainly competitive. depends how good those essays and ECs are to throw you over the top, but i’d say you have an excellent shot.

I get the impression that they don’t have enough decisions ready to release another batch, not that they didn’t receive enough applications. I’m sure they got just as many applications as other years, most likely more.

i agree johnadams

@samiam
but why would their expectations go up so suddenly and so much? And it does make sense to say the economy plays a role in how many OOS people are applying, meaning if their selection to choose from gets less (even if it’s just a little) it does not make sense that their expectations would get more.

I think this is all bull honestly. The quota thing. They probably had a problem with the server or something and they don’t want to admit it (UC got a lot of sh !t for crashing a billion times) so they’re just saying the every other thursday thing is just a myth. After all, they never officially announced admissions would go out every other thursday… it’s just the pattern we have been seeing

…or decisions will be up tomorrow.

:)

smiles to keep from hyperventilating

Okay, really quick quick question for all of ya UMich-experts lol:

So I just got a letter from UMich, and the thing is…the letter didn’t say the word “deferred” in there at all. It just said they needed my 2nd semester grades this year…so does that mean A) I still got deferred (aka, eventually rejected), or B) They’re going to accept me eventually, but want to see I’m not doing worse/doing better, or C) I’m still probably gonna get rejected…and they’re just being nice by not saying that upright.

Any info? (really confused here)

That’s a deferral, sorry mate.

“@samiam
but why would their expectations go up so suddenly and so much?”

Who said their expectations went up? I have seen nothing to make me think they changed what they look for in applicants.

And I agree that the whole quota thing is bs. I also don’t believe there was ever a certain “every other thursday” thing. Yes, that is how it’s gone so far, but in years past it has been every one, two, or three weeks on either Thursdays or Fridays. Everyone jumped to the conclusion that they release decisions every other week. You could see some decisions tomorrow, and if not then you can count on next week for sure.

haha I only wish that someone from UMich saw us debating all of this here. we all clearly deserve to get in just based on our clearly demonstrated interest.

soo chances for tomorrow…

ahh. this wait is killing me. once i get in, i won’t need to care about school anymore…

@ samiam
I figured by “I get the impression that they don’t have enough decisions ready to release another batch, not that they didn’t receive enough applications.” you meant you thought it was because their expectations went up, which is why they don’t have enough decisions.

another theory … it was thanksgiving break and they got lazy and didn’t have enough time to review enough people. hmm…?

jackdaniels,

No that’s not what I meant, I was saying they just for some reason didn’t have enough decisions ready to release a “batch”. Probably because the Thanksgiving holiday didn’t allow them enough time to review as many apps as usual.

Edit: Just saw the second part of your post, and yes I think this is very possible.

…or, it’s December and whatever pattern they had established is breaking down in favor of releasing chunks or sporadic decisions whenever they get the chance in order to make deadline. Sucks that there’s no longer any real predictability, but I suppose the newfound element of surprise could keep us on our toes. (Or, from the sound of it, a coup de gr

I think Michigan lowering their standards is completely speculation, and not true at all. There are always people below average who get accepted (obviously). If anything, Michigan’s standards are increasing, not decreasing.
