I’ve been browsing the Ann Arbor Umich forum for a while on this site and I’m quite surprised I haven’t gotten my deferral letter yet. I applied knowing I had a slim chance at best. My friends who have gotten deferred for the most part have higher ACTs than me but lower GPAs. I applied to the School of Engineering btw for Computer Science/Engineering on Oct 29th, eligable for ER.

My stats---------------------

GPA: 3.75 UW, school doesn’t weigh

Rank: Around top 10%

AP Courses: 2 this year, (Calc BC and german 5), one AP last year that doesn’t really count as a legit AP

ACT: 26… horrid I know. I’m going to retake it soon if I get deferred.

Essays: I would say pretty decent, I spent a lot of time on them. I made it clear that I was passionate about attending the University of Michigan in all of them, and also I wrote an extra essay and attached it in the “Extra Info” category.

Letters of Rec: My counselor one was somewhat generic, although my math teacher wrote me a pretty good one because I was one of his favorite students.

ECs: These might help me, but not sure. Varsity Captain of both the track and cross country teams, varsity in each sport for 2 years. Football fr0sh year, Key Club and Rocket Club, Work 2 jobs, started my own lawn mowing business in my neighborhood. Plenty of volunteer hours too.

I’m kinda mad that I won a few nice awards right after I sent out my application that would’ve looked pretty good on there. (Nominated for scholar athlete scholarship (only 6 athletes at my school got nominated to compete), and won “Most Valuable Runner” award for the cross country team.
So what do you guys think, I know I have a snowball’s chance in hell. But is my deferral letter probably just waiting to be sent out since I applied near the deadline? I’ve been anxiously checking the mail every day and making sure nothing with a golden little “M” on it is in the pile. You know what they say, no news is better than bad news right?

don’t worry if there are people who turned in their app. later than you but got a response already. this depends on the stats of the person. for you people that had everything in by like nov. 10th, how were your stats? were they really good or average compared to that of those who already got accepted? if your stats are really good, then you’ll get a reply a week or 2 after applying. but for those that are lower/borderline, it’s gonna take sometime since the admissions are gonna be looking thoroughly at everything.

don’t give up hope guys! yes, realistically if you applied early and haven’t gotten a decision yet you’re probably deferred, but if you applied Oct 30,31,something around then … there’s no reason to think you’re deferred! it hasn’t been a month yet since they processed all your stuff and the ‘average’ applicant would take about a month or so to get a decision. good luck to all!

thanks for the inspiration jack! you’ve gotten in haven’t you?

when r the next batch of decisions out??? if everything was received by 5th nov and i still dont have a decision does it mean im probably deferred?

all of my stuff was in by late october & i don’t have a decision yet. so everyone, just relax.

Where does it say when all of your stuff was received?

all my stuff was in by late september and i still havent heard anything so u guys need to chill

Hey guys, they do reject ER applicants. There have been a handful at my school–I myself was deferred.

lockn: it says it in wolverine access -> application status -> view credentials, and the list of things received and by what date.

and yea, the people who haven’t received a decision yet, i don’t think you guys should be freaking out AT ALL. i think i was kinda really early to get a decision. i have a friend who applied the exact same date and time (nov 1st) and she stilllll hasn’t received a decision yet.

okay…nvm…i guess its a myth that UMich does not reject ppl. According to ^ Graceful10, they do reject ppl. Don’t lose hope and Good Luck!!!

@rocxc4life
noo not yet, I wasn’t even ER until I called in last week, they had claimed they haden’t gotten one of my recommendations, and they just changed me to the ER pool on Friday. so i have NO idea when i’ll be receiving a decision haha.

you guys all have it better off then me, at least if it’s been forever you can brace yourself for a deferral. i don’t know how long is too long considering they just realized I was an applicant this friday. great…

but like i said, everyone will be fine. just calm down and waaaait :)

damn… I just looked at the credentials page and found out that I’m supposed to send a transcript from community college that I dual enrolled at. Didn’t know they wanted one. I hope I’m still under ER.

^It’s not true that if you applied early and still haven’t heard back, you’ll be deferred. Yeah, a lot of people will, but a lot of people are still going to get in who applied early like September.

3 minutes til 12 am? haha…more decisions?

^lol, keep your fingers crossed

why would they all of a sudden release decisions on Wednesday?? lmao but good luck tho…haha

So when decisions are released, are they at midnight?
