Official Class of 2015 RD Decisions

Many students with top stats will not be accepted at Skidmore as first year students as they are concerned about yield. Admissions will look at a high profile student and conclude that Skidmore is a safety school, rather than a serious consideration. If FA is a real consideration, remember that Skidmore admissions is need-aware, rather than need-blind.

A NY Times article several years ago described Skidmore’s admissions process in depth. Aps are actually sorted and marked if the student needs FA. Our daughter’s transfer FA package was delayed a great deal, because she needed FA and they were trying to work out a sufficient package.

The academics have been disappointing to us, but she is relatively happy. This year’s Paris program has been a disaster, but I believe the administration plans changes.

I still haven’t heard anything! International!
Huge financial aid required!!!

^me too. Such a long wait. The worst part is that the longer the wait, the more u cling onto ur hope. Even tho u may damn well be rejected. Damn:(

Damn!
10char

I really need finiancial aid too, but I was waitlisted, and they only give you a day to decide if you want to go if they accept you off the waitlist, so I’m a little worried.

@BIN157 and Expeliarmus, I would really suggest you call the school, to find out about your admission status I got my letter last Monday and even then it was one of the last schools to respond to me.

D was accepted. Deciding between Skidmore and Oberlin. Will play on a sports team.

@amk881 There’s no need to call, I received the mail today, I was rejectedsigh

Am crossing my finger right now that u can get off the waitlist, since from what I read in your previous post in this thread, Skidmore is your dream school (: However, to be absolutely honest, since u need finaid, if I was u, I would, um, give up on Skidmore already (sorry if my phrasing is a bit crude). I have heard from so many ppl that waitlisted applicants who get off the list often get very little finaid (almost next to nothing). I really hope Skidmore is different though, all the best (:

BIN 157, I’m really sorry you didn’t get in!
I got into a bunch of other schools, like NYU and Sarah Lawrence, so even though I LOVE Skidmore, so I’m not as disapointed about being on Skidmore waitlist, I’m still going to try to get in, but if I don’t I won’t be crushed anymore. I didnt realize that most waitlisted students got very little finaid if they are accepted off the list, that’s really disapointing!

ah, I applied to SLC and got rejected too, so jealous with u now hahaha j/k. Hope both SLC and NYU offered u good aid (:

Well, I found this on John Hopkins admission blog:

If I am accepted off the wait list and I applied for financial aid, will I receive any financial assistance?
There is no guarantee of financial assistance for students accepted from the wait list. It all depends on whether there is available funding after the numbers are crunched from the admitted students who have chosen to enroll. If financial aid is still available, then students admitted off the wait list will have financial aid packages awarded to them. If financial aid is not available, then we will be unable to admit students off the wait list with financial need.

U can read other questions about waitlisted applicants here: [Hopkins Insider: A Post for the Wait Listed Applicant](<a href=“Hopkins Insider”>Hopkins Insider)

Obviousl John Hopkins is different from skidmore, but it seems to be a general trend. Again, all the best (:

S was admitted to Oberlin, Wooster, Skimore…
Oberlin and Wooster gave nice financial aid. Playing a sport
Interested in Biology, environmental science

Would love to hear your opinions!

While Wooster is a lovely school, it’s not of the same stature as Oberlin or Skidmore. Oberlin has an amazing environmental studies program. On the other hand, Oberlin students are perhaps a more eclectic group, so it also depends where your daughter would feel most comfortable socially.

S visited Oberlin last year and liked it, on a visit to Wooster now and Tuesday off for the overnight At Skidmore. Of the three schools, Skidmore is the one that we know the least.
Thank you for your reply!

I’ve decided to go to skidmore, and am currently waitlisted at another school.

Question: Has anyone recieved e-mail information yet? I sent in the deposit a few weeks ago, and haven’t gotten any further information

Frogmom, I enjoy your posts as we appear to have kids with similar interests. But why do you say Wooster is not of the same stature as Skidmore? Merci!

I disagree with FrogMom. I would say Oberlin is in a different league than Skidmore and Wooster, which are more similar–not necessarily in their programs or approach but in their reputations. At least where I live (Midwest), Oberlin is widely known and respected and the others are not as well known. Between Wooster and Skidmore, I’d say the stereotype is that Skidmore is a little more arts-oriented and Wooster is more focused on undergrad research.

Thanks, Sally; that is the impression I also had.
