Decision: Waitlisted

College and program: I forget

Stats:[ul]
[] SAT I (by section): 760M, 750CR, 640W
[] SAT IIs: 790 Chem, 770 Math II
[] ACT: na
[] APs/IBs: 5 Chem, 5 Bio, 4 Spanish
[] GPA (UW, W): 3.95, 4.15
[] Rank: 2 or 3
[] Other stats: n/a
[/ul]Subjective:[ul]
[] ECs listed on app: Working in family restaurant…uhhhhh…CA Scholarship Federation (but I never went to meetings)…not much really
[] Job/work experience/volunteering: Give Every Child a Chance Tutoring (3, 4 years)
[] Essays (subject and responses): Brief Auto-bio, covered bases from 4yrs old to now
[] Hook (if any): Poor as dirt, does that count? Also, 1st Gen. college student and I work a lot at restaurant.
[/ul]Location/person:[ul]
[] State or country: CA
[] School type: Public
[] Ethnicity: Chinese
[li] Gender: Male[/li][/ul]General comments/congratulations/venting,etc: I wasn’t sure what to expect after I got into UCB’s College of Natural Resources which seemed much less competitive compared to The College of Letters and Science (as I looked at the decisions thread). I honestly prefer this MUCH more than outright rejection since I really want Financial Aid.

Also, if you didn’t get a letter of any kind today, don’t feel like you’re already rejected, my decision came in 1st class mail which seems no slower than priority. Congrats to those already accepted!

On a related note, is it possible to reserve a spot at another college and still retain a spot of a waitlist and the opportunity to accept a offer of acceptance?? Please PM an answer if you have one, it would be greatly appreciated!

Waitlisted.

Not accepting position on waitlist. No reason to go to a school that costs twice as much as other schools I’ve been accepted to with far greater engineering programs than Vanderbilt.

My little sister is in the Houston, TX area and has not received any letter at all so far, and neither has anyone else at her school.

I am a current student at Vanderbilt (about to finish my junior year), so she has the legacy thing going for her. Go Dores!

@redzerb
My daughter’s boyfriend also found out he was rejected today; his stats are quite similar to yours except he has a 34 ACT. He was pretty upset about it. His ECs are also very good, none of us can figure out why. Perhaps his essay didn’t stand out enough or the LOR weren’t stellar… hard to say, just wanted to say that there are probably more than a few very qualified kids feeling a bit shell shocked.
