Official Class of 2020 Northeastern University Early Decion/Early Action Discussion

Has anyone asked about how they decide deans scholarship amount and Honors College. It appears that some people who got into honors got less money on deans scholarship than some that didn’t get into honors. Seems odd???

@bsmom123 I think I remember reading on their website that Scholarships for people are given to top 10ish percent of accepted students in all colleges but honors is top 5% in each individual schools. Naturally, some schools like for engineering and finance will have more competitive applicants and they probably got the scholarship money but not honors for their school.

@bsmom123 I may be completely wrong on this, but I think I remember someone saying that honors is for the top 10% of each college within the university whereas scholarship amounts consider students individually. I hope that makes sense, and can anyone verify this?

Accepted for business with Dean’s scholarship- 20k per year. 2250/2400 1510/1600; 3.9 uw, AP scholar. No honors. Not going to beat the Presidential scholarship and honors at Temple.

if those who were offered an honors program reject their offers, does northeastern select few more applicants at the end to be part of the honors program? i’m happy with everything i got but i’m kinda sad that i didn’t get into the honors program…

I was deferred. Do I still have a chance of getting in if my senior year grades aren’t that good? Wasn’t planning to get deferred so…
And I’m taking 4 AP classes

accepted for bio with honors program and 22k annual dean’s scholarship!! 2330 SAT, 4.0 UW

@themarchrabbit not sure, but I hope so! If I get into my reach schools, I will definitely decline this offer so that other people can possibly be accepted into it!

Northeastern is so damn expensive and they gave me such little aid. I’m feeling frustrated because I clearly do not have the money they think I do. 200k for 4 years of education is absolutely absurd for the oldest of three siblings with one working parent who makes less than 70k/year

@starry900 what was your GPA and ecs???

Accepted with Dean’s scholarship for biochemistry!

SAT: 2220 (740R, 690M, 790W)
ACT: 33C 36R 26M 36E 34S
GPA: 4.9/5

@chromodynamics you should appeal your FA package. You only got $10K in financial aid with 3 kids in college and a total family income of $70K? Did you run the Net Price Calculator on the site?

@Redsnow

GPA weighted :4.956
EC: NHS, Spanish NHS, Key Club, Apprentice at an assisted living facility.

I’m thinking it was my recommendations and Essay that really helped

@kaatherinee I was deferred too! Actually all of my friends who applied were deferred, and I’ve noticed this has been a trend over the last few years. I’ve heard that because Northeastern has been growing in popularity over the last few years they want to be cautious before admittiing some people. You definitely do have a chance! Don’t lose hope - we got this

@Zaffre 2360 SAT. 800 Biology and Math II subject tests. Weird GPA system. 5.23. weird GPA system. 5 is an A in honors. 6 is an A in AP.

Hey @senioritis07, congrats on getting accepted! Do you happen to know how much merit aid you received? I was deferred but my stats are nearly identical to yours, so I’m curious if the scholarships will be enough to make it worth sending in some extra stuff and fighting to get in haha

I received only 1,900 a year in grants from NEU? This is certainly not enough for my family to pay for the remaining 60k in fees. Is there anything I can do to raise this? 32 ACT , 4.1 WGPA , NJ applicant

@xheki05 did you run the net price calculator to get an estimate?

On their website, they claim that merit scholarships range from $10K to $25K, but the highest I’ve seen from anybody in this thread is $22K. Anybody know if they’ve given out the maximum to anyone? Besides University Scholars, of course.

There were likely over 20,000 EA applicants and less than thousand have posted here. Not sure if CC is a representative sample.

@TomSrOfBoston we often forget that!! I’m impressed by the variation in admits. Lots of kids in “lower” stat (meaning well above normal but not perfect) were admitted EA! They showed NU something that inspired the admission, and it shows me NU actually read the apps.

Someone posted $25k.
