Official Class of 2022 Applicants Discussion Thread

@TL0228 asked, hope they get the email and tell me. Thank you!

Hey guys, I applied regular decision to CMU’s SCS, which I did ED Carnegie is my top choice but wasn’t sure whether I qualified or not decided why the hell not, and I did the initialview interview they asked of me. The issue is that the “Where am I in the process” page says they didn’t receive my interview until 8 February. I sent it on the 26th of January but didn’t know it’d take this long (btw I had to have the interview rushed and I still couldn’t get it until Jan 26). They said they wanted it by Feb 1, is it okay?

Another question I have is I have already sent my application and documents but I want to add to my activities. I have founded the first Computer Science club at school and also became the Vice President of the Astronomy Club at my school since I have applied a month ago. Can I send them an email mentioning these things or is that not allowed?

@FutureCSstudent call the admissions office if you want to make sure. I think you’re fine tho, they generally aren’t super strict with deadlines, so as long as they received it, you’re good.
as for the extracurriculars, I honestly don’t think it will make that big of a difference. you founded a club at the end of senior year, while others have done it as freshmen. same with the vp thing. dedication/continued participation throughout high school is usually the key for extracurriculars like clubs and sports. you could still try and let them know if you’d like, but who knows if it’ll have a positive effect, especially this late in the game.

does anyone know if unusual majors have an edge over the typical engineering and CS? I know CMU is a huge school for STEM related things and I applied as an English major. My stats (tbh mostly just my SAT) is a little low for them so I wondered if my potential major helped at all. thanks!

So I filled out the financial aid estimator a while ago, but still haven’t received it. I did get an email about it saying I qualify for financial aid, but no concrete estimate in the mail. Perhaps it’s because I filled out the estimator after applying?

Technically they say before April 15th, but i’m hoping for sooner of course

We are hoping to hear sooner as well but have a visit planned for the first week of April. Has anyone else visited? Especially interested if anyone has sat in on a class, etc and has feedback.

In the past two years (2016 and 2017), they released the RD at 11:59 pm (or midnight) of March 25. Let’s see it will be the same this year.

I can confirm that they will almost certainly release before the visit as the whole point is to be for admitted students. When I visited for the post-admission Turn Tartan Overnight it was really awesome to meet people you knew would (likely) be going the next year, and they have a lot of school-specific events and so on (more than usual I believe because it’s for admitted students).

@lovespink
You can sit in on basically any lecture class you want as at that point there will be plenty of open seats, and some professors even like calling out the visitors. You can check this link: https://enr-apps.as.cmu.edu/open/SOC/SOCServlet/search for classes/locations/times that you might be interested in sitting in on. If you are interested in comsci courses let me know and I can tell you the ones you would be taking freshman/sophomore year so you get a good feel for them (mainly large lectures for first two years), and I might know the ones for other majors as well. I do not believe there will be many exams during that time, but you can always ask your host/this thread if there are so you don’t accidentally visit an exam.

Anyone else hoping that by some miracle decisions come out on the 15th?? I know I am.

Will financial aid awards come out before/after the letters, or are they released at the same time??

Our trip is booked for the first week of April too so it would be great to know by 3/15. Seems like my S would be really disappointed if we go and then he isn’t accepted the week after we get back. Really hoping for an acceptance!

I think decisions are coming out before 3/26 because on CSS it says that financial aid notifications come out then.

Anyone else having problems logging into the "Where Am I In the Process’ portal? I have an error message. It has instructs for me to contact admission office for resolution? :frowning: I checked it the other day and everything was received.

I’m not having issues @spacebound18

Thanks. I’ll call tomorrow.

@spacebound18 I got your problem. When you copy your Applicant ID, there’s always a space after it. Just delete the space with backspace and you should be good.

@derpdarklord yes! That fixed it. Thank you.

I want to send a resume update to the admissions office but CMU does not seem to have any information about that. Do you know who I should email or fax the update letter to?

So are we expecting a wave of decisions to roll put in three days on the 15th? Even though CMU says that they will release decisions on April 15th?
