i've been feeling too "cool" to post, because i've been pretending to be laid back about college... but really i'm not... so i'm letting it all out now.

1430 SAT
790 Writing 720 Bio 630 Math II
3.8 GPA unweighted
APs: 4 on Bio, 5 on Euro (Junior year)
Senior year: AP Statistics, Government, and Physics B
Honors Humanities block class (our school is known for its humanities program, in fact, the list of readings from our class is almost identical to that of the Columbia core... one of the reasons why columbia looks good to me is that i feel like we've been glossing over some really cool stuff, since we're doing it in 1 year... and it's high school.)

I want to say that I go to a really challenging high school.. the top 20% includes only 3.80 and above (unweighted), and it isn't like those 60 kids aren't taking difficult classes, because we all are, and i value being in school with those people more than i would ever value having a higher class rank. Despite this, I keep noticing that most people rate their high schools as "competitive." I'm not sure what to think about that.

went to nicaragua last year for 2 weeks, NHS vice president, editor of the school lit magazine, officer in the school's chapter of amnesty, only teen member on the public library board, intern at lawfirm (8 hrs/week), summer school at the university of washington, i organized a forum last year about local elections (alone).

5 years of what would be called "intense" ceramics, if ceramics could ever be called intense...

also, i'm pretty active, going into the city a lot to see lectures, go to art exhibits, concerts.... i read a ton of news..... and books...

and i wrote my essay about being a vegan....

anyway, i really want to go to Columbia but i'm trying hard not to get my hopes up. I'm from Washington state, so hopefully that'll help. I'm taking a year off and working on a farm/going to thailand to teach buddhist monks english (yes, i know it's cliche) anyway, so i'm sure i'll have time to put everything in perspective after admissions decisions come out.

i've already been "accepted" (likely letter) to wellesley, and i also applied to harvard and the georgetown school of foreign service.
