@hobbesette, I also think it would come out within 2 weeks. But I’m uncertain whether the deadline extension from hurricane sandy would delay the release slightly. I’m suffering from insomnia every night from ED result pressure. I’m currently thinking of a way to commiserate possible defer or rejection to myself and others

@krp322, hmm yes, your argument makes sense. I feel there are strong barriers (?) that differentiate LAC and national universities. I found out lot of Americans are aware of LACs whereas internationals are mostly focused on prestigious national universities known as Ivy+. Including me, students from my country who studied in Canada/US, were hardly aware of LACs. Perhaps there are factors that can advertise national universities domestically and internationally more effectively than LACs.

@HateSMUS yeah I guess internationals would be used to seeing mainly the larger universities and that makes complete sense. Even in my small Baptist town in Texas most people have never heard of an LAC, other than Rice of course, let alone know all the ivies. It was difficult to search for great schools when like 99% of my school stays in-state. Some of my friends had no clue what Columbia was when they asked where I wanted to go. Scary stuff.

Oh heavens me too. I’m currently trying to formulate some sort of speed therapy strategy hahahh because finals week is literally right after results come out

lol That’s funny. I have a friend from my country at my high school and asked him which universities he wanted to apply. All he knew were Ivy league schools. He didn’t even know there were 8 Ivys and thought Harvard, Stanford, Princeton, Cornell, Brown were Ivy league univs. I loled at him. If such student like you mentioned doesn’t know what Columbia was, does s/he even know any university outside of his state?

My school doesn’t make seniors take finals if they have a 90 or above and are absent less than 2 days per semester. I guess I’m lucky! It’s pretty much guaranteed I won’t have to take any. Absences screw me over though.

BTW, I figured telling yourself that defer/rejection from ED school opens up a chance for HYPSM admission can be a very effective way to overcome the depression. My first term ends on 7th and the tests begin on 8th XD The result on the 7th will determine the test performance definitely.

R any of you considering waiting until after finals to check results?

@hateSMUS well some know out of state schools but Texas is so big and truly does have some great school options that they aren’t really keen on leaving. Plus our guidance counselors pretty much suck at giving college advice. It’s all about UT Austin and Texas A&M at my school.

HELLL NOOOOO The extra waiting will literally kill meeee

Hahah I’m just worried that I will bomb all my finals and then that will screw me over for RD

Ha I’m not even applying to HYPSM. My 2nd is either Brown or Pomona. And are you kidding?? I get out the 21st for break. My school sucks

I know finals are not gonna be included in my first term mark, so I’m not too worried krp322, your school is truly idiosyncratic. No final would feel great

Hahahh im just scared that i will bomb all my other finals and then be screwed for RD

It’s just going to screw me over in college when I actually have to take the final without having any recent experience studying for one.

Hahah this may be a dumb question but what does the M stand for?

Yes, it is a dumb question XD so M in HYPSM? M stands fro MIT

Ohhhhh hahahh I’m not sciency so I didn’t know. Also, apparently the ED deadline last year was extended too… to November 4th because of a storm

Yeah I read that too. Wasn’t nearly as bad as Sandy though.

Are students who used the Nov 5 extension at any disadvantage?
