I’m a current Columbia University student and I thought I would let all of you know that receiving an interview is not indicative of anything. It literally means nothing. I was one of the flustered kids who didn’t receive an interview and who was also jealous of the kids who did. Let me tell you, a lot of those kids who got interviewed were rejected. An interview really just helps you a bit or hurts you a lot.

Anyways, best of luck. I love Columbia so far (although there were days that I’ve really hated it all). It’s an amazing school, with wonderful people in such an awesome city. I’ve had the best conversations here that keep me awake until past 6:00 am. People are more than passively living here; everyone’s actively alive.

P.S.- You’ll receive your ED decisions before the 15th. Let’s just say I know. Seriously though, I’m actually pretty sure. Enjoy your senior year and have tons of fun. If you don’t get in, it may seem like the end of the world, but really it’s probably for the best. I’m sure you’ll be happy wherever you end up. Columbia is a fantastic school and I’m blessed to be here, but it’s definitely not for everyone.

Then I speculate we have about two weeks of waiting left until the decision release. If the decision release takes place at about the same time as last year, it will be around 7~9th. I always wanted to get the ED result ASAP, but now that it’s only two weeks away, I’m kinda scared to find out. It will be a total disaster for me if I get rejected, a frustration with university pressure if deferred from my dream school, Columbia. I don’t want to imagine such situation. The fact that I’m an international applicant sometimes really makes me pessimistic. I’ll need to try to focus my attention to other subjects so that I don’t get super-nervous for next two weeks.

I am pretty sure (99.99999%) sure last year it was the 15th not 7th - 9th.

Last year was about 8th. Check the 2011-2012 Columbia University ED thread. Your 0.000001% chance of uncertainty seems to be underrepresented:)

Yeap i was wrong LOL. That 0.00000001% odds man.
I am so nervous. I am an international student but from Canadian applicant pool.
Fingers crossed

haha same here. I’m incredibly nervous too. I study in Canada but I’m South Korean so I will be considered in South Korean applicant pool. Thx god my parents can afford American university without any financial aid.

Urgggh I wish they would just give us a day that we will find out our results. I really dislike all of this vagueness. I don’t see why they can’t just say, on this day you will be able to check your results

Just got finished with my interview =)

I really thought it went well-- made the lady laugh a few times. Didn’t hurt that she was a SEAS '12 grad either.

Good luck to everyone else!

HateSMUS I am also South Korean studying in Canada. are you in ontario or bc?

lol do you have a Canadian citizenship then? I study in Victoria, BC as you can find out from my name if you know about Canadian high school.

I thought it was st mikes university school but if its in BC i guess not. I only know st.georges. I go to private school in toronto

No i don’t have canadian citizen, i only have permanent residence, so I am international.

oh nvm. I got confused with St.Mike’s College School LOL

I was actually (informally) suspended from my high school in a ridiculous situation (unjust conflict with a school prefect). During that month long suspension, I wrote APs and SATs and joined this CC forum so I named so. lol I used that hook to universities such as Harvard, Princeton, Stanford and Chicago. I wished I could use that topic to CU, but it had short-answered questions, so I couldn’t. I wrote about how judicial system must be separated from legislative and executive power in order to create not necessarily democratic society but to transform society into fairer and more just place by pointing out how a single person (student director) could ignore the whole process of getting ratification of School board and solely gives suspension without any legitimate process or discussion. I personally think it was the best essay I’ve written so far( and unique?). I thought very few academically qualified Ivy+ applicants (2200+SAT 3.8+ GPA etc) would have gone through suspension like such. lol I just kept on talking because my antagonism against my school’s authorities often gets emotional. Anyway, SMUS is academically great school to learn in terms of quality of classes and teachers (although academic intelligence of the student bodies seem to be exacerbated every year due to influx of Chinese students and smart students leaving SMUS) but has a nasty school authority system XD We scored first in Canada for average AP test scores. I can probably say ‘Suck it u scums, I’m going to Columbia’ to the student director if I get admitted in Columbia ED lol

I have 2310, 800 on 2 sat ii, 4.0 (97-98 cum avg. so i guess) , top 1%(doesn’t rank but i am 1st or second), took all AP offered at school, got all 5, placed 2nd international business competition DECA, national business competiton (in korea) hosted by Naver, involved in Canadian Military and its band, and am Head of House at my school. And I am president for 5 clubs, founder for 2 and play in varsity squash and badminton. I am ranked top 20 for squash in Ontario. I applied Uchicago EA, and Columbia ED. I hope we Canadian-Koreans can meet again in person in Columbia next year. Good luck to you

wow you have a definitely very strong application. We have exactly same early programs Columbia ED/ Chicago EA. Hope to see you in one of those universities. Gd luck to u as well!

BTW, did you apply for CC or SEAS? Looking at your brief resume, I’m kind of thinking CC since your ECs are toward business. I applied for CC with major of econ.

Same LOL. typical koreans man

lol so typical. But I especially loved econ n political science since I was like gr 3 so I interned in Korean national assembly in junior yr. Pretty sure more than 70% of majors of Korean population in NA are econ, business and engineering, crazy man. I wanna focus on macro econ related to political science rather than micro econ which I think is more opened to getting occupations in banks or firms.

I visited Columbia in my summer business program which took place in Penn and Columbia. I stayed in each dormitory for 2 weeks. Penn dormitory was really awesome whereas Columbia dormitory was somewhat… old or outdated? Still, I preferred the atmosphere from Columbia and the smaller campus as well as its surrounding, NYC.
