In school this course is offered to students with the highest term marks and O-level grades and with Physics and History made my course load very rigorous.

Captain of school U-19 debate team this year- Led the team to victory in a regional championship and won the National Championships (where I destroyed RedCapedWonders team btw :P) Won a few more regional championships and semi-finalist at U-17 National Championships.
Volunteer/Community service: 120 hours at an orphanage. 30 hours at a school for special children.

Summer Activities: Nothing substantial.

Essays: CommonApp centered on a meaningful and quirky part of my childhood; its difficult for me to actualize my work but whoever I showed it to thought it solid.
Supplements: Why Columbia and essay on extracurricular were very good but the other two I thought were definitely weak since I wrote them the night before deadline.

Teacher Recommendation: Excellent.
Counselor Rec: Head Boy should have helped to make it good.
Additional Rec:
Interview: Very strange; my interviewer and I didn’t click and even though he was from my school, he hated it and hence did not really appreciate me being Head Boy of it.

Other

Reflection
Strengths: SAT 1, Had two major leadership positions in school, grades, successful debater on a national level, CommonApp essay I felt represented me positively and was quirky. I’m sure my legacy definitely was a differentiating factor for me (although I hope it wasn’t a major factor)
Weaknesses: SAT 2, Supplements maybe-did 2 of them the night before deadline, EC too focused on debates, no conspicuous wow factor.
Why you think you were accepted/waitlisted/rejected:
Where else were you accepted/waitlisted/rejected: Haven’t heard back from anywhere else and don’t care!

General Comments: Guess Friday 13th was lucky for me because getting this decision is something that I’ve been working towards and hoping for most of High School-my username is completely dedicated to Columbia so to actually be part of the Lions community is something that has yet to fully sink in and like many of those accepted I’m having a hard time grasping that I’ll be spending the next 4 years at Columbia in New York! I’m elated beyond words to get into my top choice and to avoid pesky college apps-it feels gratifying to see that the adcoms thought I was a good fit for the school. To those waitlisted/deferred/rejected- I know it seems cliché and hollow when a lot of posts talk how about you’ll get in somewhere that suits you, especially if your heart was set on Columbia, but after seeing you guys on CC I’d just like to say that it is Columbia’s loss for not taking you and it will work out for you guys one way or another.

To those thinking of applying next year, it feels surreal that I’m now in a position to give you advice on this, but remember that CC is not the Holy Book so take everything with a grain of salt. Start early, be focused, but don’t let this process consume you! Also, make sure you represent yourself with one strong theme throughout the app and have EC’s with depth not width to give adcoms a tangible idea of how you can contribute to the university community.

Ciao-About to go re-read my acceptance letter!
