OFFICIAL CORNELL 2010 ED'ers

i love how we're verging on a flame war in the "who's going 2010 ED" thread...

ashernm: good catch on my apparent contradiction, but nothing prevents harvard's average from (if you apply each effect in a seperate step) being pulled up by self-selectiveness in the applicant pool and at the same time down by the iconic nature of the school. Basically the apparent contradiction just strengthens the point of multiple outside factors affecting admissions rates, even within one school.

To call cornell last in the ivy league could be done only by oversimplifying the matter.
In overall academic ability measured in the traditional sense, and general public reputation, you would probably put Harvard on top and cornell at or close to the bottom.

In diversity of ability of students, you certainly couldn't put cornell close to the bottom though. Cornell has the top engineering school in the ivy league, and the best hotel school in the country (world?)

In terms of school spirit and environment, it's pretty hard to do worse than the notoriously unenthusiastic columbia. You can get an idea of how passionate many Cornellians are from the rabid defense the school gets on this board. Cornell is a city of it's own with a town that revolves around it. Not bad if you ask me. For those who want to complain about the weather, please see the picture of princeton in march I posted in the thread addressed to me.

In terms of hockey and food... :D don't mess.

Based on how many people responded, I guess the ED pool for Cornell will be very small this year....

Correct me if I'm wrong here, but it's AUGUST!

Plenty of students still have more college visits to make and guidance/college counselors to talk to. In my case (and many others who post here frequently) I applied ED, got in, and THEN decided to sign up for this site to talk to future classmates and help out the RD kids. I'm sure the ED applicant pool will continue to grow. Futhermore, the percentage of Cornell students who actually post on here is miniscule. In 9 months I've only seen posts from a few hotelies.

Well, sparticus800, I agree with all of your points.

This thread is no indicator of the ED pool.

I'm not 100% sure if I will do ED. I have to decide if I want Berkeley more than Cornell (I know Berkeley is better for engineering).

To add a bit to the discussion reguarding admission difficulty. One factor that also gives Cornell a slightly higher admit rate is that only really serious students apply. Cornell is notorious for being extremely difficult and requires a lot of hard work. The kinds of students that want to apply to a school like this are a lot higher caliber, so they don't get a lot of applications from kids who aren't so serious. Also, Yale and Harvard have EA so that also lowers their acceptance rates because a lot of people decide to throw in a "what the hell" application because it isn't binding. Cornell doesn't seem to attract the "what the hell" applications that other schools that are more widely publicized for athletics or other things.

yeah, and for every point your post makes dodgerblue, and they're pretty much correct, theres an equally strong point to refute it. Just the nature of acceptance rates, not saying it's a BS post.

Do you think all 25000 applicants to cornell use collegeconfidential, guys?

Do you think that all 3000 of the EDers know they want to apply ED in early AUGUST (and how many use CC now? lol)

Do you think...oh wait, maybe you're just yanking our chain! ;)

Haha I didn't REALLY believe that this thread is actually indicative of the ED pool. I was just comparing it to similar threads on other boards that got a bigger response turnout.

It seems im the only one in the country applying ED to the College of Human Ecology...yay! lol ;)

And im a guy too!

ashernm - you should take a course in psychology. You'll learn there are different types of intelligence, from spatial, musical, nature, linguistic, interpersonal, intrapersonal, and a few more, you'll see that logical/spacial intelligence does not mean you are smart overall. Cornell will be able to display all types of intelligence (according to our 7 undergrad colleges with different emphasis on different intelligence) as opposed to Chicago. Make a case for a certain type of intelligence, but don't putdown Cornell saying the student body is less smart than Chicago on one dimension of intelligence (wow i sound like that eharmoney commercial)....i guess i'm saying this because i'm an HD (Human development) major and have studied this extensively in a few of my classes...

my 2 cents.

So what's everyone's stats? Like SAT scores, location, Ec's etc etc???

Lets bring this thread back up? Now it's application time, we should get some more inputs
