Applied ED Cornell...second thoughts???

I submitted my ED app. I am visiting my ED2 school this weekend. I seriously can see myself here, at my ED2 school, over Cornell. I don't stand a chance of getting into either of these two schools without the ED advantage. I am a legacy at my ED2 school. I fit the mean stat criteria for both schools, but still, No guarantees. I guess I will let the cards fall as they will. I just love my ED2 school. The people are great, academics and social life balance ( better than Cornell in terms of balance), and it's in a great city!!! Anyone else feeling the " post-submitt" ED jitters? Ahhhhh!!!! I wish Cornell had ED2!

I feel you, in the end i decided not to

You can still withdraw your ED application. If you like your ED2 school better, you should ED1 there and probably would have a better chance of getting in.

What about the contract that student, parent and guidance counselor sign via the common app? Will common app let me apply ED1 to another school, even though I will have notified Cornell to change my app status to RD?

Why don’t you contact Cornell to see how you could change your application. What I wouldn’t do is to apply to both schools ED.

Thanks so much @oldfort. I am meeting with my cc today to talk about this. It could be that while I was visiting my back up (ED2) school this past week end I was in the moment and could honestly see myself there. I love both schools so much! I do worry about the balance of work and social/activities/clubs, etc at Cornell. I guess if they dont think I can handle it, they’ll deny me in which case I’ll apply to my ED2 school. AHhh…what to do!!!

Vanderbilt legacy isn’t all that helpful. I went to Vanderbilt and I"m the only one I knew there whose kids have gone. Keep in mind that visiting ANY college while you’re in high school will make that school look amazing. Keep in mind that Cornell has a much better engineering school. Keep in mind that your gut told you earlier that Cornell was your first choice and you acted on that. I think you should leave it alone. Vanderbilt’s ED policy is: admit or DENY - there is no deferral. As my daughter said, “you can be happy at any college you choose to be happy at.” Our youngest chose Cornell engineering over Vanderbilt - it’s a better program. Cornell is Ivy League. No matter where you go, what you do, that still means something.

I came from Asia. I can tell you Ivy League is a symbol of intelligence in Asia. And among the eight Ivy League schools, almost all college educated people know Harvard and Cornell are in the league if you say the names in their language. It is that big! (Some Asian people may know other Ivy school names but don’t know they are in Ivy)

My daughter was born in the States, and we are looking into Cornell, MIT, Princeton, and Penn where two of them are big names in Asia (the first two) and three are famous in the US. International recognition has weight in our consideration just to give her better opportunities in the future.

I have never heard of Vanderbilt until I got on CC. Not that my opinion has any weight but to let you know the situation outside of America.
