Official Cornell Class of 2019 Early Decision

Haha @manas1997‌ I would start writting your essays. Even if accepted I don’t think I will rescind my applications to the public schools because who knows what could happen. Also I agree, I like other schools, but I LOVE Cornell. Especially being LGBT (should I have put that in my app?)

Anyone want to update the list of how many of us are applying ED by college and major? I’m curious but lazy haha. @manas1997, GREAT last line of your post btw: “if Cornell rejects me, Cornell’s dead to me…”

@connect1234 I’m more curious to how many applied ED on this forum last year compared to this but no one tallied it up on forum last year. Yale received less applicants this year, Penn and Dartmouth slightly more. I think (and hope) Cornell probably received slightly less apps this year (deadline was a week longer last time etc)

@cornell19, Yes, I feel the same way! Think someone posted that Cornell does release ED numbers but not sure if they are ever by college.

@connect1234‌ they release it a few days after decisions are released. Also if the decision date is December 11th I beleive that’s the same date as 2012 when they received ~4200

@Cornell19 yes you should have lol. Im from Canada, my back up is Waterloo, which has the best coop program in the world, so technically im not totally screwed. Im applying to US schools just because I want to get to the US, which would be lot easier through a top college, if I dont get into a single top school, I will just go to Waterloo. I started my Brown essays, working on JHU and CMU next. Happy applying everyone

Other than Cornell, which colleges are you planning on applying to if you god forbid do not get in??

Brown- love the open curriculum
JHU- Great all-rounded school
CMU- Great in STEM
NYU- Good math program and good location for internships
Princeton- Good math program
Harvard- Parents want me to apply…
Duke- Nice school, probably provides the best college experience besides Cornell.
UPenn- Great business program if i decide to be an actuary.
UChicago- Love the city and the school.
MIT- its MIT

What other schools should I think about with a strong Math/CS program, i cant go to california, so im looking at east coast schools.

NYU and Cornell seem like exact opposites to me. I couldn’t stand NYU or Columbia because of their campuses, or should I say lack of thereof. The only other schools I’m applying to on east coast are UPenn, Yale, and Duke. Hoping being Hispanic and gay (duke has an essay asking about sexuality) will help with Duke haha. But who knows

@Cornell19 true but i dnt really care about location. I hate Columbia, they are too extra on requirements. NYU’s math program is great and who knows, maybe the city campus might be a good thing! My top 5 are Cornell, JHU, CMU, Duke and Brown. MIT is too big a reach for me as I have a low physics score(710) and am canadian, otherwise it would be in my top 5 as well.

@manas1997 how much does MIT care about SAT 2 scores? Their acceptance rate is so much higher for women too (like 14% vs 5%)! Does anyone know if their is actually affirmitive action for lgbt and Hispanic students haha

idk but mid 50 for sciences is 740-800, however this vague as it could be biased by a certain subject

@manas1997 I don’t think they matter for Cornell though, even though they require them

@Cornell19 yeah i know, i was saying that MIT cares and, that since it is too big a reach cuz of the score and the fact that i am international, it is not in my top 5 choice schools, meaning the order i will be completing them.

For anyone who has an upcoming alumni meeting, check this out to calm your nerves a little: http://caaan.admissions.cornell.edu/ContactTips&Advice.pdf

18 days until Dec 11!!

Thanks, @Kungpaoasian

@connect1234‌ :smiley:

Well, I guess I’m not getting an alumni meeting :’(

@jamesjunkers‌ same, I don’t think there’s any alumni in my area, but I’m applying to CAS so they don’t have an impact on admissions.
