interesting read for both academics and athletes <a href=“A Rare Glimpse Inside the Ivy League's Academic Index - The New York Times”>A Rare Glimpse Inside the Ivy League's Academic Index - The New York Times;

calculate your index <a href=“Calculating the Academic Index - NYTimes.com”>Calculating the Academic Index - NYTimes.com;

@jeff0418‌ I’m pretty sure it’s going to be updated on November 24 aka tomorrow

@Ericthenewyorker‌ @airspirit‌ I might drop by there (drive 10 hours) for a coffee if it turns out to be lucky ~O)

AHAHA @Ericthenewyorker‌ @airspirit‌, small world indeed! And LI’s not far from me, I already had my alum meeting but I’m always up for Starbucks and could have popped in to say Hi (inspired by @Kungpaoasian) :)

How was everyone’s CAAAN interview? I have mine tomorrow and am pretty nervous.

I know they supposedly mean nothing, but are there any statistics on the relationship between getting an interview and getting accepted?

At least 12 kids in my school ED’d to Cornell, and at least 7 got interviews :’( :’( :’(

@Kungpaoasian‌ @airspirit‌ @connect1234‌ we’ll have a cc reunion there :slight_smile:

@MyRealName‌ Mine was super chill. We pretty much just talked about his experience at Cornell and some other stuff I won’t say to protect my identity and my interviewer’s identity. The only questions he/she will ask are why you chose Cornell and if there is anything you want to add to your application.
@jamesjunkers‌ I don’t think people who were borderline got interviews as you mentioned. But I don’t think people who they don’t like or will admit won’t get interviews either. I don’t know what the distinction is tbh.

@Radbg74‌ How long was it?

@MyRealName‌ About 1 hour. If you don’t have any questions or you aren’t a very good conversationalist, it will probably be shorter. Length is not that important.

@Radbg74‌ So was it just mostly for 45 minutes you asking about their experiences and whatnot and the other 15 them asking you or what?

@MyRealName‌ We went off on a couple of tangents like Coldplay, local high schools, his job, and wine lololol. But for the most part, yeah, it was mostly me asking him questions and him talking. Relax! I was extremely nervous but all the anxiety went away after a few minutes.

My interview was about 1 hour as well. I honestly don’t remember what we spoke about. I’m pretty sure she asked me some questions that I answered, then I asked her questions that she answered. Somewhere during the conversation we got into hockey and stayed on that topic for about 25 mins because it turned out she lived next door to a kid on one of my teams. It was more of a conversation than anything, very relaxed and fun.

I think I have senioritis.

I’m up writing a really boring paper, so I might as well do this in the hopes that I won’t have to do it for Regular Decision:

17 days until Dec 11!! :smiley:

@jamesjunkers they are informal and just to help ease the application process I believe. They don’t have enough volunteer alumni in enough areas in every area so unless your interview goes terrible (you lied about who/ what you were maybe) or you had some hue accomplishment since time you applied it won’t matter.

@Radbg74‌ I see. Wait, if you’re going to a Starbucks, does he/she expect you to order something?

@MyRealName You are expected to get a Pumpkin Spice Latte :smiley:

Not sure how credible that academic index is, using different calculators or different ways of entering stuff (GPA vs class rank) my AI was able to change 15 points…
