Yeah same with me, It’s literally the perfect college for me. I want to do pre med but I also really like the social sciences. Also it’s cornell which is where ive wanted to go since i was 8, and its relatively close to home

@MyRealName It is a very difficult college to get into. Please avoid talking down on it as future appplicants and non-posters may become discouraged. Most applicants here apply to HumEC with real interests. They don’t just want the Cornell or IVY brand. :))

I’m not sure how good the Human Eco. Comittee is at sniffing back door gimmicks, but I’m guessing that since all the majors in Human Ec. are pretty specific, a majority of the 79% that were rejected must’ve wrote generic essays. A student (freshmen: MatrixSurgeon) mentioned that if you write/wrote an essay with genuine enthusiasm for the college, “it will go a long way.”

this is a really vague question, but what kind of essays are considered “generic”? How did you guys tackle the supplementary essay?

@wowihatecalculus: that’s a question I can answer… From personal experience. I applied to many schools last year and was rejected. I’m pretty sure that my essays were the reason I’m on a gap year now.
The worst essay you can write is the one in which if I were to replace college X with Y, it would make perfect sense. Another one you can write is where you make literally no reference to academics and write about campus vibe etc. You’re going to college for academics. Please let that be the main focus.

I want to continue but I’m running out of time… I’ll write another comment later.

@Cornell19 that was not for her Cornell supp. it was for her common app essay.

@lkgrg17 oh, I wrote about an experience so vital to making me who I am today or something like that

Wait how did the HumEc acceptance rate drop 10% in just one year?..

@Connor2019 A lot more people applied for the class of 2018 than the class of 2017.

So should we be getting an email with login info this week then?

@Kungpaoasian yeah. 10% in one year just seems like a really dramatic drop. Like even if people are just applying cause they saw the high acceptance rate, you’d think they would have figured that out more gradually.

@jamesjunkers I hope!! Maybe near the end of the week

A lot more people applied last year because of the extra common app days. I know at least two kids who were gonna apply ED to cornell but didnt because they didnt meet the deadline. Imagine how many people like that there are all over the country.

@acdc1272, I honestly do not think the extra week made a significant difference. If Cornell was truly your number 1 school, you weren’t submitting on November 1…at least that’s what I think, I could of course be wrong

@jamesjunkers Some schools have extended their early action deadline, which made me heavily consider putting an app in just so I can hear back soon. Not sure of the same applies for ED but I’m sure some students applied because they had that extra week and the idea of hearing back by mid December was too tempting.

@Cornell19, yes, but EA and ED couldn’t be more different. You apply ea to a school if you’re app is complete, you apply ed because you fell in love with it

What email with login info?? @jamesjunkers

@123211, the one that will let us view our decisions on December 11th :P

@jamesjunkers it’s a different login from our ApplicantID login?

I believe so, if you read through the past posts in this forum, it seems that in the first week of December, Cornell emails all applicants days g the date decisions are coming and with a new account for viewing them
