Just one question–I have the qualifications for Cornell, and am the only person applying to ILR in my high school? Do you think I am more likely to be admitted because of that?

@dannyo95
As you probably already know, Cornell is a very very selective university with admission rates that are among the lowest in the country for undergraduate education, no matter the college. It does not matter if you are the only applicant or not from your school because the school will still look at how you stand compared to your classmates and to your environment. They do this by looking at guidance counselor recs, school report, class rank, GPA, class rigor, and other measurables that show them that. On top of this, you might have extracurricular activities, community service and/or leadership that they also look at and compare you at-least a little to the entire pool of applicants that particular year. Your essays for ILR matter alot because ILR is a very specific and focused school and Cornell is probably looking at how your past and your future fit in with the school itself. As long as you have something along the lines of that, I am sure you have as much of a chance as the majority of the rest of us.

Source: many experienced people on CC (T2E64, etc) as well as my own experiences with people applying to top schools as well as hours upon hours of research and insight. But then again, I am just another RD applicant.

I’ve heard that question alot and wondered the same thing myself. Upon meeting with a Yale adcom for my area, I learned that it all depends on if the University is looking for any particular geographical quotas to fill i.e. admission to applicants from all 50 states and 80 countries, etc. That being said, its unlikely that multiple unhooked kids from the same public (can’t speak for private schools really they always seem to be the exception lol) high school will both be admitted if they want variety from a certain state and cap off by district.

But really, they’re going to get TONS of applications from all corners of the country, if not globe, so whether or not your classmates apply probably isn’t going to make a difference.

Good luck fellas, if you have any questions pm me. I’m a c/o 2017 bio major, thinking about a physics minor.
