I just had my CAS “informal discussion” today and I wonder if it is actually be an interview in disguise…at the end the alum I was speaking with asked me if there was anything I would like the admissions committee to know. However the interview really was more of an “informal discussion” and we talked more about Cornell itself than me as a person.

Maybe it’s a way to secretly gauge your personality and your interest in Cornell? I dunno…it went well anyways so I’m not too worried.

not an interview in disguise at all
don’t stress it - it really does not count for much at all
many get in without even having an info session
the info session means almost nothing

Wow we are putting this up already decisions don’t come out until April lol. And CAS does give out interviews in a way. CAAN I think its callled? I had one in November.

SAT and grades still matter a lot. There’s a limit to “fitness” or else the school would be as selective as a state school where everyone “fits”. It depends on what kind of student you are on the whole + your circumstances. If you are a great applicant and you have really outperformed your peers in poor circumstances/ if you have a great hook, then bad SAT scores can be less of a problem.

@impetuous, that’s not true. Only six schools in the US are completely need-blind for internationals. Cornell’s not one of them.

From Cornell’s FA site:
“Cornell University is pleased to provide financial aid, ON A LIMITED BASIS, to students who are not citizens of the United States.”

Believe me. Cornell is need blind for internationals.

“Need blind” is not the same thing as “meeting 100% of demonstrated need.” Yes Cornell offers limited financial aid to internationals, but applying for aid has NO effect whatsoever on one’s application to Cornell, even if he’s international. I’m an international applicant this year who applied for FA. I’ve done my research.

Oh, my mistake. When I read “need-blind” I automatically assumed “meets full need” as well just because I also have to apply as an international with FA and I essentially need full tuition. Sorry about that.

I’m a Pakistani from Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates. I’ve applied to Cornell’s Engineering program and I’m also a financial aid candidate. I was given an interview, my interview was to happen in another city and I’ve travel probs so I had to opt for a phone interview instead, and it was great discussing about my goals and learning about Cornell in return. Hope for the best, and good luck to all applicants out there :)
