BAHH. One higher in science and I could have gotten a 32 >8C

Hehehe Sorry i spammed :3

But seriously? My future can be…ruined because I answered like two measly questions wrong in the science section where it doesn’t even TEST your scientific skills??? Hrmph.

@incorrigible
@ paulyk I don’t think it could hurt. For my colleges they’ll look at only the highest test score. But I’m not 100% sure. Does anyone else have ideas?

@Pauly: your SAT is slightly (VERY slightly…like 10 points) higher than your ACT. I don’t think adding the ACT will help OR hurt you in the admissions process.

It was my first time taking it, and I was pleasantly surprised. I am disappointed with my essay though because I thought it was better than an 8. And I thought I did better in math, but I am not complaining.

@Somewherehere I am a US Student, and unless specified,I would assume most here are as well. This discrepancy is really worrying me. I’m happy with a 34,don’t get me wrong, but when something doesn’t make sense at all,I don’t understand. If your subscores are perfect, shouldn’t your score be perfect? The curve must be wack or something. I’m almost sure I only missed one (awakened vs awoken, stupid mistake) but others missed two and got a better score. It’s crazy.

Interesting. I had a 1930 on my SATs in October, 30 on my September ACTs.
I think a 30>1930, and I’m going to say (based on too many hours of googling this topic( that a 29 and 1920 are about equal.

I got the same English subscores as Incorrigible: 18/18 and 16/18. I’m really not sure how you got more subscore points than me yet a lower score… Sorry! If it makes you feel any better, I had 3 18/18s on math but didn’t get a 36.

Ok, so I just took the ACT for the first time (I’m a junior) and I got
English 35
Math 36
Reading 36
Science 31
Composite 35
Overall, I’m really happy with my scores, I was just wondering if having a lower score in science will be held against me, especially since I’m interested in majoring in a science related field. I had not taken a practice test prior to the actual test, so I was unused to the formatting of the science section- this meant I wasn’t able to finish and had to fill in random bubbles for 3 or 4 answers- so I know I could have done better. I also think this because I am fairly good at science (I got an 800 on my bio sat subject test). I was just wondering if I should consider retaking the ACT in order to improve my science score. I don’t think I could improve my composite score because I’d need four more points, but would it be worth it just to improve the science section (and risk receiving a lower score in other sections)?

Also, my writing score wasn’t posted online. Does anyone know when they’ll be posted?

percheno, I wouldn’t bother. I don’t believe any adcom has ever come out saying that they take the science subscore seriously enough to judge your actual ability to think along scientific lines. Like all things, it is a number that is an approximation – and they are aware of the fact that it is not perfect and does not reflect, as you said, unfamiliarity with format or a bad test day.

To get a 35 composite in junior year is really something exciting. Congratulations. Now start writing some essays! :)

My Son is a junior & got a 33 on the ACT (english=30,math=34,reading=31,science=35) . He has a 4.5/4 (weighted) GPA. Should he retake the ACT to get into Harvard or Stanford?

I don’t think ACT/SAT matters, once it gets to a certain level. How does you son distinguish himself from the pack is what counts. I don’t think 36 or 2400 makes any distinction at all. On the other hand, it looks like that your son have a bit room in the english/reading dept, why not take another one next year?
