<p>Wow azgirl, nice stats! Were you a GWHS finalist? I'm going to be there April 19 for accepted students day, maybe I'll see you there!</p>

<p>Alright, another Democrat!</p>

<p>Welcome azgirl, nice to have another lib on board. I actually worked with the New Mexico Kerry campaign at the end of October (I worked with a lot of different groups from many different states during this campaign when I was interning for Citizen Action of New York).</p>

<p>And a fellow National Merit Finalist to boot, alright! <em>raises glass</em></p>

<p>ahah no i didn't even apply (for gwhs), was convinced i'd get waitlisted, or maybe rejected.</p>

<p>the atmosphere seems really friendly on the forums, so i hope that's indiciative of the incoming class as well, w&l is def up there as one of my top choices.</p>

<p>btw yay dima343...after hearing about a conservative tilt, i'm glad i'm hearing about dems/liberals to balance things out</p>

<p>"btw yay dima343...after hearing about a conservative tilt, i'm glad i'm hearing about dems/liberals to balance things out"
I'm not... haha JK ;-).</p>

<p>I guess basically everyone knows this, but just to make it <em>official,</em> I'll definitely be on campus next year, since I was ED II.</p>

<p>Decision: Accepted (I still don't have the letter, I called today and was told over the phone)</p>

<p>Stats:
SAT: 1460 (perfect math-weak verbal)
SAT IIs: 780 math2c, 690 bio, 670 writing
GPA: n/a - 2 B+ in high school, all classes considered honors
Rank: n/a
Other stats:</p>

<p>Subjective:
Essays: pretty good i guess, but definitely did not put that much time into them
Teacher Recs: good i think
Counselor Rec: good, 200 students in a class, so counselor knows me somewhat
Hook (if any): born in vietnam, researched neuroscience at northwestern university, miss teen of il 1st runner-up, miss il teen usa interview award, refugee tutor, sports, some other ecs.. </p>

<p>Location/Person:
State or Country: IL
School Type: selective but state funded
Ethnicity: vietnamese-american
Major strength/weakness: mmm.. verbal on any kind of testing
Why you think you were accepted/rejected/waitlisted: test scores, transcript, unique background</p>

<p>Other Factors: did not interview -- got lazy</p>

<p>Decision: Waitlisted</p>

<p>Stats:
SAT: 1330 (670 Math, 660 Verbal)
SAT IIs: 650 math1c, 690 us history, 660 writing
GPA: 3.5 (almost all honors courses, also took lots of college courses)
Rank: 67 out of 293
Other stats:</p>

<p>Subjective:
Essays: Really good, I think
Teacher Recs: Awesome, couldn't ask for better ones.
Counselor Rec: Really good, got to actually know the counselor.
Hook (if any): No real hook. I traveled abroad last summer for about a month in Austria, Boys State, planned and led a weeklong Scout trip, SPL for my Scout troop, Eagle Scout, President of Band and Model UN, volunteered a lot and is part of youth group, some other stuff...
Location/Person:
State or Country: OH
School Type: public
Ethnicity: whiiiiiite
Major strength/weakness: GPA was pretty weak, got two C+s (should have been Bs but hey, I screwed up)
Other Factors: did not interview -- no one close enough willing to do it</p>

<p>Decision: Accepted</p>

<p>Stats:</p>

<ul>
<li>SAT: 1290</li>
<li>SAT IIs: 710 writing (other ones not so good)</li>
<li>GPA: 3.7 unweighted (7 AP's and 2 college classes by graduation)</li>
<li>Rank: top 5%</li>
<li>Other stats: All AP Exams (4 in total) passed with a score of 4</li>
</ul>

<p>Subjective:</p>

<ul>
<li>Essays: excellent</li>
<li>Teacher Recs: didn't see</li>
<li>Counselor Rec: didn't see</li>
<li>Hook (if any): long term commitment to extracurricular activities, Peace Studies internship this summer in Belfast, lots of activities related to Judaism </li>
</ul>

<p>Location/Person:</p>

<ul>
<li>State or Country: California</li>
<li>School Type: Public</li>
<li>Ethnicity: Caucasian</li>
<li>Gender: Female</li>
<li>major strength/weakness: strengths: strong writing skills, good communicator, interest in international issues
Weakness: SAT was low</li>
<li>why you think you were accepted/rejected/waitlisted: While my scores were certainly not the highest in their applicant pool, I think that I was an interesting applicant for the school due to my strong Jewish background</li>
</ul>

<p>hmm.....I wonder if W&L has affimitive action for Jews...</p>

<p>Speaking of, W&L Hillel is amazing. I've gotten so much attention from them. They sent me an e-mail yesterday congratulating me on my Honors Scholarship and thanking me for spending time with them in March.</p>

<p>Hey Dima,</p>

<p>I don't know if W&L has affirmative action for Jews. They actually gave me and 3 other students an all expense paid trip to come see the school and learn about Jewish life on campus and we were discussing that. Its pretty funny to think of, as at most schools, Jews are so over represented. Anyway though, their Hillel is great and the director, Joan, is such a nice person. I like the fact that it is more intimate than the Hillels at the other schools I am considering.</p>

<p>Joan is WONDERFUL. And yeah it's more intimate, probably because it's so small. That's how the whole school is.</p>

<p>Decision: Accepted (EDI)</p>

<p>Stats:
ACT:31
SAT: 1330
SAT IIs: 790 Writing, in the mid to high 600's on the other two
GPA: 3.95, honors and/or college courses every year
Rank: top 5%
Other stats:</p>

<p>Subjective:
Essays: really good, a lot of effort
Teacher Recs: two incredible ones
Counselor Rec: a little impersonal, but adaquate i think
Hook (if any): Summer Scholars last summer, did some campaign volunteering for Kerry, Youth recreation volunteer
Location/Person:
State or Country: WA
School Type: public
Ethnicity: caucasion
Major strength/weakness: GPA high and ACT at high end of median, low SAT and not as many EC's as I would have liked, but my job precluded that to an extent
Other Factors: Interviewed at summers scholars, kept in good contact with admissions all year long, plus EDI showed a lot of interest I think, maybe making up for my weakneses</p>

<p>Decision: Accepted</p>

<p>Stats:
SAT: 1550 (780v/770m)
SAT IIs: 800, 750, 740
GPA: 3.5, but I go to private school... (Ever seen Dead Poets' Society? That's my school.)
Rank: we don't rank, but I'm probably, like, 10 out of 78 or something
Other Stats: 5 on AP Writing, 4 on Cal AB, 3 on French Lit</p>

<p>Subjective:
Essays: I thought it was poop, in retrospect.
Teacher Recs: I think one was boomin', the other was probably good.
Counselor Rec: I think it was good. The counselor was new, so it was ghost-written by an English teacher who liked me.
Hook (if any): Absolutely none. I didn't even interview.</p>

<p>Location/Person:
State/Country: NY
School Type: Private (boarding)
Ethnicity: Whiter than bleached chalk.
Gender: male</p>

<p>You know, if it wasn't for SATs, I'd be in a tight spot. I mean, I take the tough courses (anything that could be honors, is); but still, with no hook, it's hard to say I'd be a great candidate with a 1350.</p>

<p>Joan is indeed wonderful. I didn't do as much with Hillel as i'd have liked to this year, but she was a lot of fun to talk to when we took some Hebrew classes, at the brunch, etc. And her dog is gorgeous. :)</p>

<p>I'm up for First Fridays at Five next year if y'all are! And I know at least one other person who's up for 'em. Maybe we can all be (more) active with Hillel this coming year. :)</p>

<p>Decision: Accepted EDII</p>

<p>Stats:</p>

<pre><code>* SAT: 1320 (660 v, 640 m)
SAT IIs: don't remember...maybe 720 math IIC, 730 writing, 730 U.S. History?
GPA: either 4.98 or 5.0 on 4.0 scale (an A in AP/honors inflates your grade ridiculously)
Rank: 1/63 (we technically don't rank because we are so small)
Other Stats: 5 on AP U.S. History (will be taking AP Calc AB and AP Lit in May)
</code></pre>

<p>Subjective:</p>
