OFFICIAL Duke University Class of 2014 RD Applicants

I had my alumni interview and the guy said if my application doesnt get me in my interview will…Im so excited!!!

thats great dmoore! what did you guys talk about???

sigh Unfortuantely I couldn’t get an interview…busy winter break + didn’t turn in supplement in time because of high hopes for WashU + too many Duke applicants + etc., etc. :frowning:

But I’m going to rely on my application with all my heart! :D

Moon and Star…look about you. Perhaps you should go chat with a non authorized Duke alum you don’t know right now in your community that others know is a Duke grad. Drop Admissions a paragraph on what you learned about Duke if you don’t feel this person would wish to take the trouble to write comments on you since obviously they are not designated interviewers and have not read the material admissions provides to real interview people. Our Vandy son realized that a “new face” in our town in local government was a rare Vandy grad…not a popular school destination around here. He asked to have coffee with him. I don’t think this man sent in a word to Vandy about him, but son learned a lot…since he was actually not sure he wanted to go to Vandy at all at that point. Meeting this man gave him insights that he couldn’t glean from websites and tours. He sent in a paragraph about meeting him. Just an idea. People get into Duke all the time with zero alum interviews, believe me. Alum interviews of course have elements that are evaluative. But they are often simply good insights into different eras of a college, and into changing aspects of a college over time for the prospective student. They give you a sense of perspective and history on a college and what it meant to one person. They can make you more or less interested in attendance as well as serve as vehicles to evaluate you is my point. You will have a lot od thinkin’ to do if admitted to Duke in April and an alum interview is one authentic look into the university. Alum networking at Duke is one if its pluses because there are Duke chapters in many cities and many alum remain enthusiastic about Duke for a lifetime. My Duke son found employment with a Duke graduate in the middle of the worst recession since the depression this year. This man’s Duke is not the same Duke my son attended…all colleges are morphing with the times. Duke I will say…is often morphing ahead of the times…it is young at heart and has many very progressive global outreach programs and pathways for students via Duke Engage and many other vehicles for students.
Duke will not turn away short cogent updates to your folder. Some of you will win significant extra honors that you will want to send to Duke in the next three months for your folder although they will start reading folders in early winter.

We just had a natural conversation. Talked about family, economy, new technology, and of course duke. We talked for about 90 min and the only reason we had to stop was because the coffee shop was closing. But yeah I’m very confident.

my interviewer called today! WOO

Hi everyone! I love Duke and have my alumni interview later today (about an hour and a half from now!). Any suggestions/words of advice?

By the way, for those of you who’ve already had your interviews, did you have to bring a resume with you? I asked my interviewer this in an email, but I think he forgot to reply to that particular question, so please let me know if you have an answer.

Good luck fellow RD-ers! :)

Are the interviews only given to people who submitted the ENTIRE application before the deadline? I’m starting to get worried since I turned in my supplement way before the interview deadline, but only turned in the main application a few days after that deadline had passed.

Am I just becoming paranoid?

My D submitted only the supplement by Dec. 10 and she got a call about an interview about 3 days later. I bet it depends on the presence, interest, and availability of alumni in your area.

I submitted mine on the 9th to make the interview deadline and i was submitted a couple of weeks ago. If you haven’t been contacted by now, there may be no alumni in your area.

Well that sucks. I guess even having a Duke alumni chapter in Beijing doesn’t help. I thought at least one person in that chapter would be trained to give interviews.

Oh well, hopefully they’re just on vacation right now and I’ll get an interview in a few weeks.

Hey, you guys got calls for your interview, instead of an email?

^yeah my interviewer seemed pretty traditional. she invited me to her house o.o

I got an email

My daughter got a phone call.

Hey, quick question. I got an email from my interviewer and responded back with when I was available, and he hasn’t answered back. It’s only been 3 days, but how long do you think I should wait before emailing again/calling him?

I haven’t gotten anything yet :[

Scooter30, it also took my interviewer a couple days to get back to me. I would wait at least a week before calling or sending another email…you don’t want to seem like a nuisance. And according to my interviewer, they don’t have to get all the interviews done until the end of February, so it’s not like you’re really pressed for time or anything.

got nothing yet either bllleeeehhhhh

Ok yeah I’ll definietly wait until next week, thanks!
