OFFICIAL Duke University Class of 2014 RD Applicants

Doubt that, as I live 20 minutes from campus  More likely that they are just really busy trying to squeeze in all the applicants from my area.

Well, the amount of applicants in your area (20 mins from campus) is probably a lot higher than other parts of the country.

I submitted my app a few days after the interview deadline and was just contacted about an interview. But, an admissions rep said that there are more alumni interviewers in my area than in most. So, I guess it just all depends.

Nothing here.

Have they said anywhere how many people applied RD this year?

^yeah seriously, have any of the colleges released any stats yet?

The RD deadline was 4 days ago - they’re still opening mail. I doubt they’d have any sort of numbers yet.

EEEEE I have my interview tomorrow!!! It’s odd because I submitted my application all at once on Jan 1 (or Dec 31 late at night I forget) and on Jan 4 I received an email from a local interviewer who asked if I wanted an interview. He also said in the email that the interview was optional, but since he emailed me about one, I thought it’d be pretty bad to turn it down. I think 5 or 6 people applied from my school, and only a couple have gotten interviews scheduled, and most of them submitted at least a portion before the Dec 10 or 15 or whenever deadline.

Wow, you’re so lucky to get an interview! I’m jealous! But best of luck to you!!!

I have not gotten anything about an interview
oh well
;/

i submitted my app before the priority deadline for an interview and i still havent gotten one. my friend who goes to the same school, submitted after the deadline and still got one
i’m confused

lol i submitted my app about 10 days after the “interview” deadline and just recently had an interview

[Duke Receives More Than 26,400 Applications for Admission](http://news.duke.edu/2010/01/regular_decision.html)

^thank you!!

There is no way that Duke would have its alumni network interview all 27K applicants. There must be some pre-screening process. Those of you have gotten an interview, congratulations - I think that is a good sign that you are in the running. If you haven’t yet heard, I would think that does not bode well.

^bostonvillanova

I don’t necessarily think that’s how it works. You’ll have to factor in geography, accessibility, and many other factors.

^I can guarantee you with 100% certainty that is not how it works. Furthermore, there’s still time to get an interview as they don’t have to be completed until mid February, so if you haven’t been contacted, there’s still hope. People are busy and don’t always reach out to students immediately when they get assigned them. Alumni can be procrastinators just like you
Getting an interview or not has no indicative value as to your admission; it just depends on how many volunteer interviewers there are in your area and how many applicants there are

Not all 27K people applied early enough for an interview. If there is some pre-screening process it’d probably have to do with whether or not you turned in your application completely, and by the date.

hello!

i’m new to this site and a hopeful future Duke undergrad student(:

does anyone know the exact date we find out whether or not we got in??
oh, and i got contacted by an interviewer in my area about a month ago. the interview went well.!

Last year it was 3/24 so we are thinking 3/23 this year, but this is all conjecture. Welcome to CC and good luck with your notifications.

@bostonvillanova: This is the exact email I got from the admissions office on 12/02/09

Dear Lily,

Greetings from the Duke Admissions Office!

We noticed that you are currently planning to apply to Duke University. We look forward to receiving your application. We wanted to let you know that if you’d like to be considered for an alumni interview in your local area, you’ll want to have your part of the Common Application or the Duke Student Supplement submitted by Thursday, December 10.

I submitted my common app (NOT my supplement) on 12/09/09. I submitted my supplement later in December. I was contacted for an interview by an alumni in mid January.

Hope that helps! I don’t think there is any “screening process” to see if you’re “in the running” for admission.
