[/ul]General Comments:
Wow. I am in utter disbelief. I was deferred early decision and fully did not expect to get in regular decision. I had an alright, but not great, first semester and thought that Duke was an impossibility. Nobody from my school has ever gotten into Duke, including a kid two years ago that is currently attending Harvard. And after getting waitlisted at Cornell (a school I thought I had a great shot to get into), I spent an hour rueing the fact that I would have to open a rejection letter from Duke, my favorite school. But as soon as I read “Congratulations!” I screamed and ran outside barefoot with happiness. I still have no idea how I got in, but I am just blessed to be given such a great opportunity.

[] School Type: Public
[] Ethnicity: Asian
[] Gender: Male
[] Income bracket (if applicable): 200K+
[] Hooks (URM, first generation college, etc.): None

[/ul]Reflection[ul]

[] Strengths: Academics, and I’d like to think my essays were from the heart and very honest.
[] Weaknesses: Being an Asian male. and ECs
[] Why you think you were accepted/waitlisted/rejected: I honestly don’t know.
[] Where else were you accepted/waitlisted/rejected: Rejected from UPenn, Yale, MIT, Harvard. Awaiting Stanford. Accepted at Michigan and Maryland.

[/ul]General Comments: I’m incredibly relieved and thankful. A lot of my friends, and many of those on this thread were just as qualified, if not more qualified than me, and were waitlisted/rejected. Those who unfortunately didn’t recieve an acceptance, keep your heads up and keep things in perspective.

D was deferred , and was just accepted !!! I know how hard it is for those that did not make it to read this, because my first D was rejected ED in her year and it was heartbreaking. I also know that the crazy parents out there like me are obsessed with CC and want to know who gets in as well as who doesnt. That being said, we are over the moon, and this was the most exciting day for our family. I am too tired, or DRAINED, right now to post specific stats, but D’s SAT was around 2100 and ACT 32…GPA 4.5 weighted with all APs and one Honors english in a very competitive school. CoCaptain of Field Hockey and Lacrosse, Community service decent, is a “double legacy” dad and grandfather, although I will tell you that I dont really think it helped that much. Her essay was poured out of her heart, and I would like to think that her lifetime love for Duke shined through in her Why Duke essay. She also had a wonderful interviewer, and she met the Admissions counselor once or twice and I think the counselor was really pulling for her. D followed up a few times after ED deferral and I think that helped as well. BUT WHO REALLY KNOWS…!!! D was accepted at Tulane Honors, and Boston College, rejected at Dartmouth. We are all still happily stunned, and I think the moral of the story is that there are “regular” kids (by that I mean kids that are still well within the ranges!) that DO get in and you should shoot for your dreams and dont give up! Congratulations to all of you amazing kids out there…if you even just applied to Duke, you have worthy aspirations and will all be terrific adults in your fields, no matter where you end up!!!

This was a bad surprise; I had thought I would make the cut. However, Duke’s impersonal style and lack of communications during the search and admissions process (compared to some other schools) raised red flags for me - I suppose it has turned out for the best, though it’s still an awesome place.

Saved my Thursday night that’s for sure. Can’t really afford but still going to visit.

I know this is ‘stats’ only, but this is related to my stats.

My original post is #9 in this thread, and I made a typo with my SAT combined score, it is 2240 and not 2340. Curse the 2 and 3 being next to each other on the keyboard!

Rejected from Yale and Princeton and Harvard (I’m assuming. Never got the email) Disappointing because I didn’t really understand why anyone wouldn’t want to take me, especially since those with less qualifications got in, but it’s okay. A lot of my qualified friends got rejected from Duke and Rice, so it’s fine. I didn’t get financial aid at all, so that’s another bummer.

[/ul]General Comments: Don’t worry if you didn’t get into Duke or any other school for that matter. The whole process is LUCK. Don’t retake your SATs. Don’t try to OVERachieve, or you may feel bad at the end like me :’(
