***Official EA Applicant Thread, Which college are you applying to at Nova? Stats?

AS (can I switch to business during regular decision or do I wait til semester if I get in?)

Cr:750 math:760 w:680
GPA:4.31/3.70
IB student
Japanese

Good luck!

Sent from my Galaxy Nexus using CC App

@Overbrook99: We have the same scores!

ScottyG: if you want to switch to VSB , notify ASAP , do not wait …BTW , you should be accepted EA.

College of Arts and Sciences
GPA - 4.0 out of 5
SAT - 1950
ACT - 31 (35 english, 31 math, 29 reading, 30 science, 33 combined)
President of a club i created
secretary of national honors society
varsity volleyball 3 years, captain
cumulatively over 500 hours of community service
best of luck to all!

Engineering School
ACT: 35
GPA: 4.3 W
8 AP’s
Love the smaller size with engineering!
When will EA hear back?

School of Arts and Sciences
2110 SAT
32 ACT
790 Math II
730 Bio M
6.02/6 weighted, 3.95 unweighted
22/998ish

Applying EA but its not my first choice

Civil Engineering
33 ACT, 2130 SAT, 3.8 gpa
Subject Tests - Math II 750, Physics 690
4 APs

Just read that Villanova’s EA acceptance last year (38%) was actually lower than RD acceptance (39.5). Assume a lot of applicants get deferred.

VSB
SAT: 1450/2190
GPA: 4.22W
Math II: 800
6 AP’s

Matmaven: I believe Lower EA acceptance rate is a tactical error by admissions. Many strong applicants not taken during EA are easy RD accepts. Admissions should do all it can to entice mid tier EA applicant.By deferring those strong applicants , admissions alienates a large strong pool of applicants and encourages them to take a closer look at peer institutions like Lehigh ,Bucknell , BC etc.Meanwhile, many of the EA accepts , the strongest of the EA applicant pool view Villanova as a backup to schools like Georgetown , Notre Dame , UPenn , etc.
BTW , all EA applicants not offered admission are deferred to RD , no EA applicants are outright denied , same goes for Georgetown.

Good luck!

Arts and Sciences
2190 SAT - 800 CR, 620 Math 770 Writing
3.6 GPA - school does not rank
4 years varsity sport, editor of school newspaper

@brave I could not agree with you more. The admissions office does a very poor job in terms of advertising the university compared to other colleges and they suck at enticing strong applicants. They don’t even have an admissions officer here on CC which is really unfortunate. You’d also expect ambassadors or blue-key kids to be swarming the web, but they are noticeably absent.

But back to your point, who would want to go to a university that initially defers you and then accepts you? Father peter needs to clean up this mess at the admissions office.

School of Business
ACT: 31 (32 super-score)
GPA: ~4.86
Rank: Top 1%

Less than a month! Ahhh. Love this school.

I also agree with Brave Ulysses and MrInformed. CC is a valuable resource and many people are more comfortable posting questions here than contacting school personnel. A while back I posted a question about the Communication program and was surprised that no one responded. Supposedly it’s the University’s largest major…blue key kids or staff members regularly reading this site could have answered, or directed me to other sources. That’s a lost opportunity and i’m sure there have been others.

And yes, the strategy of accepting EA kids who are using VU as a safety, as opposed to those middle- and uppermiddle-tier candidates who are most likely to matriculate, seems counterproductive.

Ah, I wish people had checked back and posted whether or not they were accepted.
Regardless,

School of Business
ACT:32
GPA: 3.72/4.22w
Rank: 23/522
Top 4%

Well, I applied. Now all there is to do is wait! The admissions decisions are coming out soon… really scary to think about. How does everyone feel about the atmosphere at Nova? Does it being a Catholic institution cut down on the social life?

I can certainly help you out. I remember looking at threads like this last year and wishing that the original posters had returned to fill in the final decision.
I was accepted into the School of Business EA: ACT: 30 GPA: 101.4286 Rank 3/593
Strong ECs etc.
I ended up attending Georgetown. However, Villanova was very close to being my final choice. If I had been rejected by Georgetown I would have become a Wildcat. Best of luck!

Can I ask about your experience in the GU business school? I attended the open house at VSB earlier this fall and was very impressed. I have only taken the general tour at Georgetown and don’t yet have a feel for the business school.

So far I have only taken the introductory Excel course as mandated by the Business school curriculum. However, next semester I will take Accounting I and Business statistics. The business school truly cares for its students. They hold a wide array of programs that give you a first hand perspective of the business world. The recruiting here is phenomenal. We constantly receive emails about visits by Barclay, Bank of America, Credit Suisse, Goldman Sachs, Big Four firms etc. etc.
There are also first year seminars that certain MSB freshman can take as long as they are not closed out. This link touches upon the seminars well: [First Year Seminar Program](http://issuu.com/georgetownmcdonough/docs/2012fys)
The possibilities at the business school seem endless. Georgetown even had Bono and the CEO of Bank of America speak on campus this semester. Luckily I was able to attend.
However, Villanova is a great business school as well. You won’t make the wrong choice at either school. If you have other questions feel free to ask me. I’d be glad to help!

New Question. I am a junior. Earned 5 on AP AB Calc last year. Struggling big time in BC calc this fall. Thinking of dropping BC for spring semester and taking AP Stats next year. Do most of the business school applicants at GU and Villanova come in with BC calc behind them? On track to complete 12 APs even if I drop BC Calc.

I doubt it would make a significant difference, but dropping a class is pretty bad for any school. I’m surprised you earned a 5 on the AB exam, but you are struggling with 1st semester BC calc which is pretty much a review of AP calc AB (perhaps with the addition of polar and parametric functions)
