[]Advice? Commiserations? Feel like bragging?:[/ul] I'll take it. I think I will have a better chance in the RD pool anyways. My GPA is a 5.0 W, 4.0 UW right now, and I am getting a job at the University of Delaware doing research. Congratulations to all two of you people that actually got in!

so I guess if ur not accepted, ur automatically deferred?

not a single rejection yet

hate to say it, but it seems like for mit, the deferral IS the nice rejection

I would be really surprised if nobody was rejected this year.

Any student who's deferred to RD is someone the admissions committee thinks is a competitive applicant. It's not a "polite rejection" -- deferred EA applicants historically do quite well in the RD pool.

Well I think these stats are pretty biased. I mean, yeah there are a lot of deferrals here, but its the most committed people who are posting on these forums. Those with worse chances probably aren't even looking at the forum; they accept their rejection and move on. Even those who DO use the forums would probably be reserved about posting because they don't want to be the first one to have been rejected.

There are a lot of deferrals here, yeah. But that doesn't necessarily mean there aren't a typical amount of rejections.

Or maybe I'm just trying to rationalize being deferred.

I'll break the streak. I was rejected. Stats in a minute.

[]Advice? Commiserations? Feel like bragging?:[/ul] First of all, congrats to everyone who got in, and I'm really sorry to those who did not.

I am really excited(weird huh). I seriously thought that my application would've been flat-out rejected. Now before anyone says anything, I'd like to put myself within context because many feel that minorities have the "easy way out." First off, I'm not even from Boston; I'm originally from Texas. I stayed there until my sophomore year. However during my freshman year, I had to follow my parents to the janitorial service jobs. Every Friday, my parents would take my brother and I to this gas station/Wendy's at 12 o'clock at night. We would help them sweep and mop. On Sundays it was even worse. My father had suffered from many strokes and could not do the work so I had to vacuum sixteen rooms and sweep a huge warehouse. My mother at this time was working double shifts at a nursing home and soon contracted sarcoma cancer. We were forced to move to Boston and stay with my aunt. After a year, we moved from shelter to shelter and finally to the projects we currently reside in that has a rep for murders and shootings.

I know that I'll probably get blasted for even being deferred but I wanted to give hope to those who are in situations like mine.
