***official ed decisions class of 2015***

THANK YOU SO MUCH mildcat. that means alot! I already feel so happyyy

Sorry to interject, mildcat, but I would like to point out that History isn’t as rigorous as you make it seem. To be fair, history isn’t a walk in the park, but at the same time, it is not too difficult to get an A- (3.7, like your average) in any given history class (I took a couple 300-levels, really doesn’t mean anything besides being more specific-as is the case with most 300-levels across the board) if you know how to write.

Congrats on getting a 170+ on your LSAT (that IS impressive) and into great law schools though!

And yes, ACT scores/high school performance should not be an indicator for anyone’s success in college because everything can change, so LadyDirector, get ready to start a new path.

I don’t mean to be obtrusive about this, but I’m just speaking up for majors that don’t have the luxury of having high average GPA’s. ;)

Haha NUraider, I didn’t say it was extremely rigorous or that it’s one of the hardest majors, but it’s true that it does have a heavy reading load and possibly one of the heaviest reading loads of any major. You have to write well, read well, and argue well. What more does a law school want really? Coupled with a strong LSAT score, it signals strong preparation for a top law school. I think I was wise not to kill myself taking on a different “harder” major when my real interest was history and I could prove my capabilities further through the LSAT anyway.

A 170s LSAT score (I will not be exact to preserve anonymity but it’s above 171) and an A- average in a liberal arts curriculum at a top college (actually it’s a little above but I will not say the exact number, again to preserve anonymity) are certainly things a 26 ACT didn’t predict.

Hey guys, I know this may come off as insensitive but can people who were deferred or rejected also post their stats? Having seen all three outcomes in last year’s thread, I can say that at the least, it gave me a clearer idea of what NU wants. It would also be unfair for future ED applicants as they will be unable to evaluate their chances through our current thread. Thanks guys!

[ *] Weaknesses: rank , gpa, extracurriculars
[ *] Why you think you were accepted/waitlisted/rejected: i had horrible grades my freshman and first half of my sophomore year. i have a big growth trend after that. luckily northwestern defers a very very very small percentage and i have done well my first half of senior year, which they will see in my mid year report. [ /list][ b]General Comments:[ /b] i hope to see the rest of y’all next year! good luck to future ED applicants!

I second tomopark’s point - and I think deferred and rejected posts will be much appreciated by future EDers.

ladydirector, and anyone else posting, please specify what school you applied to.

mildcat said you defied the odds in getting in from the pt of view of a sub 30 ACT score; but your hard work in everything else vs a 3 yr sitting for one test is what the ad cons saw. being a liberian URM w/ war torn first nocollege immgrant parents helped, too.

the colleges SAY that the number one predictor of success is your HS academic resume and they are right, BUT, they use the ACT as the threshold of acceptance or denial unless you are a legacy, URM, or a recruited athlete. A sub-30 ACT only defies the admissions odds and not the college success odds.

hey guys, just so you know, when they say remove the spaces in your template, they mean:

[ 8] -> [8]

I just saw an article that said NU accepted an extra 100 students ED this year based on a very strong applicant pool which was 25% larger than usual.

hey guys, i understand that northwestern does superscore. so are these your superscore sat scores?

MomCares: do you know how many students do they accept on the whole or what’s the admission rate?

^If what MomCares read is correct, the number of admits is about 720. The ED pool had 2,127 applicants. So the admit rate is about 34% or so, roughly the same as last year. RD is going to make up 2/3 instead of 3/4 of the class; coupled with an increase in RD pool (reasonable assumption given that ED jumped over 25%), the RD round is going to be very competitive.

Thought the stats in this thread might be interesting/helpful to some folks wanting to be chanced.

Good luck everyone!!

my interviewer said that in the city of Hong Kong some 200-300 kids apply every year and they pick approximately 25.
