Congratulations Guys

My D did not get in and she is very sad about it. It was definitely a reach but we thought she had a good chance. She found out last night on line and came into our bedroom crying. I told her that her older brother did not get into his top two choices but that it turned out he got into a top school and probably a better place for himself. Maybe that gave her some consolation.

WE found out that another girl got in from her school (who is pretty comparable but my D has different ec's). This girl received scholarship also. This kindof annoys my D.

I am frickin proof that you don't need to be a damn genius to get into an amazing school!

[ *] Ethnicity: Korean

[ *] Hooks (URM, first generation college, etc.): first generation, low income, and it may have helped that no one from our school's history applied to emory before, oh and I definitely showed interest by going to one of those receptions and keeping in touch with my region's representative
[ *] Strengths: EC's and essay
[ *] Weaknesses: my gpa and SAT's
[ *] Why you think you were accepted/deferred/denied: I'm your typical student who screwed up freshman year because of family conflict/depression but worked my ass off to get to where I am, although it may not be as impressive as the perfect 4.0 kid. I worked over 30 hours to support my family and ya that drains you pretty badly lol.

I am not quite sure except that I had spoken with her mother at the NHS induction where both of our D's were getting inducted. Her mother said something about finding out about possible scholarships when they did the tour during the summer - this particular scholarship has specific criteria for our school or our area, I want to say. also I think it has to do with a particular science. I know I am being vague but unfortunately I am a bit hard of hearing and when soft spoken people talk to me, I don't always want to be annoying and say "What?" to them so sometimes I don't always hear what they say. I'm not bad enough for hearing aids but certain voices are harder to hear than others. Anyway, I didn't get the full story obviously! If I do , I will share it here with you when I get it.

your post was pretty rude. these people are posting on this thread because they are happy that they got into their first choice school. there is no need for you to come a put down their admission by knocking a good school.

no, i stand by comment, i apologize if it came across as rude, b/c that was not my motive, however, what i wanted to show was that anything is possible, and I DO know a plethora of students that are by no means that bright that are emory students today. And yes, having these students at emory does color my views of Emory.
