Official Fall 2015 Brown Transfer Thread

Has anyone noticed that Brown has accepted fewer female transfer applicants for that past 3 years? I think it’s because more females enroll out of high school :confused:

@Transfer1011 I might! I’m choosing between London & Edinburgh.

I applied to Edinburgh! <3

For those who have applied, do we apply as Non-Brown students? @CatchingMyStars

I really like the idea of going abroad in fall, but not to the 3 options they gave us. From this thread, seems like most people will be going to U of Edinburgh. Can anyone tell me why Scotland and what makes it so appealing (because it’s certainly not the food)? @CatchingMyStars @actvalour

I’ve always wanted to study abroad somewhere with great night life & cuisine… not the land of haggis.

Congrats everyone! Anybody receive their acceptance letter in the mail yet? Not convinced I officially got in until I have the paper in my hands haha

I got mine in the mail, but it was just the same information as online. I did, however, take many pictures with the envelope. hehe

I have a general question I am hoping someone will answer. I tried calling financial aid but they just directed me to the website. I am waiting for my financial aid package and am wondering if they meet demonstrated need for transfers just like freshman. I understand transfers are evaluated on a need-aware basis, but do they meet our need if we are admitted and can’t pay the full bill based on our EFC?

@transferlol Well, some reasons for me are 1) I’d really prefer not to return to my current college. 2) I love travelling. I’ve lived near London before and have visited Scotland. Personally, I know I’d love to study in the UK. 3) It’s a unique experience from American universities which benefits the diversity you offer Brown and, if you’re interested with study abroad, yourself.

If you’re wondering why Edinburgh over London or Granada, I suggest you call the adviser to give you all the details. For one, Granada is a language-intensive program only. London runs on the British academic calendar which affects credit transfer back to Brown. These are some things to consider. I’m sure everyone has their own reasons for being drawn to Edinburgh. If you’re serious about applying, I highly suggest calling the respective adviser. Also check out each institution’s website for other general info and course listings.

@DukeSilver17 Amazing name and profile pic. I have received mine. Hope yours comes soon!

Can someone just make a facebook group and post the link? I’d like to talk to other potential transfers…otherwise I will just make it but I need at least one member to create it

Or search Brown University Transfers 2015-2016
@canigetsomehelp

Ahh I had a feeling they wouldn’t let me post that-- /groups/1471032749854335/ after Facebook’s URL

@actvalour haha thank you! I have a good feeling about Brown if you guys share the parks and rec luv. Yeah I got the letter! Was hoping for more goodies in it though :confused:

Anyone else just a little more hesitant to choose Brown just because of Spring admit? It would be so much easier for me to choose it over Penn if I didn’t have to wait a whole mother semester :frowning: I’ve been obsessed with Brown since HS but the fact that I was put into spring makes me feel like they just didn’t want me as much…plus the inconvenience of moving mid year ack

Guys, is it ok to have B+ and B in the record. This semester was tough for me at the same time of the application. My record showed 3B+ and 1B while i was straight A student :(((( im so worried

@EndlessHeartache I don’t think it’s that Spring admits were any less wanted. It seems like most spring admits were just students who did not apply for aid. There will be more spaces at Brown in the spring and the mid-year transfer study abroad option is likely not affordable to anyone who needs aid so that’s why they gave it to us. You see what I mean? This is just a theory though.

So I never got my acceptance in the mail, but I did get the admitted students package with the guide and forms and everything. Kinda sucks about the acceptance though, I imagined that it looked pretty cool.

@Victory26 do you have to email them with a matriculation decision in order to receive the admitted students package?

@DukeSilver17 Yessiree you do! At least I’m assuming you do.

Did people receive a confirmation email from the Brown transferapp email account after telling them you were matriculating to Brown? I’ve yet to receive any email back after 4 or so days.

Has anyone gotten off the waitlist yet?
