Official Fall 2015 Brown Transfer Thread

Hey! Just writing to say that I’ll be the designated transfer counsellor for some of you next year, and that I’m so excited to meet you guys! Congratulations, and, if you have any questions, feel free to send me a message!

Apparently transfers never get to live off campus. Brown requires all students to stay in dorms for 6 semesters. Worth considering?

@wtfiscollege I see no reason that the Spring 2016 admits would be any less qualified (or “wanted”) than any other student ever admitted to Brown; they deemed most impressive out of the privileged applicant pool, which is surely competitive. While it is unfortunate the process is need aware, I do believe the adcom would only accept an applicant if he/she is Brown caliber.

However, I find it rather unsettling that applicants of equal caliber to the Spring 2016 admits, but in need of aid, were not given a fair shot…

@Victory26 Of course, fellow transfers gotta be there for each other! We should definitely start that Facebook group so we can start discussing. Have you decided on Brown 100%?

Also, has anyone heard about financial aid yet?

@JCW77 yeah someone has to start a page, that would be great. Also yeah Brown has been the dream since forever now. I had other ivies, Northwestern, and other great schools to consider but the second this came in, it was a no-brainer. What about you?

@victory26 Wow that is so exciting! I have my heart totally set on it but I need at least a little bit of financial aid. Even though it’s my dream school, I can’t go into $100,000 worth of debt. I am really really hoping though. It would be so amazing.

Guys, was there some sort of accepted transfer students day last year? It’d be nice to get a chance to meet some of you! Brown was my dream school for most of high school so getting that acceptance letter was so surreal…parents are more partial to penn since it’s higher in rank and closer to home though.

@EndlessHeartache I don’t know about an accepted transfer day, but when I took my tour they told me all the new transfers will go on a backpacking trip together before classes start. Now, I haven’t read anything on the website about that to be certain. I wonder if there is a transfer club or transfer honor society, they have them at my state school.

I haven’t seen anything about a transfer day, but I found this information about orientation and events on Brown’s site: http://www.brown.edu/academics/college/orientation/tvrue

They have this thing called BOLT for transfers where you hike in the Adirondacks for a week I think. <a href="http://■■■■■■■■■■■■■■■■■■■■■■■■■■■■■■■■■■■■■■■■■■■■■■■■■■■■■■■■■■■■■■■■■■■■■■■■■■■■■■■■■■■■■■■■■■■■■■■■■■■■http://■■■■■■■■■■■■■■■■■■■■■■■■■■■■■■■■■■■■■■■■■■■■■■■■■■■■■■■■■■■■■■■■■■■■■■■■■■■■■■■■■■■■■■■■■■■■■■■■■■</a></p>

http://www.brown.edu/Student_Services/BOLT/bolters/about.html Ah yes! Here is some more information on it! But it says the application date was in April so I wonder if it’s too late to apply…

I read that in mid-June they’ll give newly accepted transfers the chance to apply.

Accepted in Spring as a Junior Transfer! But I would be willing to switch for the Fall semester, so if anyone is interested, please let me know!

Hi guys! Has anyone received the admit package and are able to activate their Brown emails? I have neither and am flying off for 2 weeks in 3 days! So it’s worrying. But hi everyone, great to meet you all! Should we start that FB thing unofficially to get to know each other first? Heehee.

@Victory26 Oh good! We should definitely do that!

@CatchingMyStars Not yet, but I will let you know when I do get mine. I definitely think it will come in the next three days. Hopefully they mailed them on Thursday. I can start a group but I did see that Brown will create an official one using our Brown emails. We could do an informal one just for now? Have your made you decision on Brown yet? All in?

Hey guys! I’ll make a Facebook group but for me to add people in it I need to be Facebook friends with at least one person who will be in the group. I will message everyone who is interested with my full name  Stay tuned

Admitted for Spring 2016, and my letter says my expected standing will be a Junior. When would I declare my concentration then?

I’m hoping I’m not bound to what my intended major was on my application

Accepted to Spring. Applied for financial aid.

Anyone else want to attend their current college in fall and then decide about transferring for spring? Trying to figure out if that’s possible and what to e-mail them…

Anyone going to study abroad first semester in London?
