Official Fall 2016 Cornell Transfers Thread

Hi everyone! It’s never too early to start these useful threads. Loving the virtual communal spirit.

My Stats (Bergen Community College):

Nationality and Current US status: European Nationality, Canadian Nationality and US Green Card

College/ Major Applying to: Arts and Science / Government

Entering as: Junior

HS GPA: 4.0/4.0 --> Private Canadian Secondary School

College GPA (Honor Student): 3.84/4.0 so far, after a year. I will explain why it is so low in my letter (had to take the same horrible professor -B+ and B- twice because no other professor taught the class. His ways were way too old school, and he should have retired a long time ago, but blaming the professor is selfish and useless:I should have worked harder! I really should have.)

SAT: Did not take it yet, as I am new to the US

Extracurriculars:

Clubs - Regional President for Phi Theta Kappa (official international honor society of two-year colleges), member of the official School of Honors, President of the Animal Care Club, Social Media Aid for the Feminist Club, Right-Hand man to the President for a Historical Literature and Fellowship Club, and hopefully will begin the year as a senator/justice for the Student Government Association and as a Peer Mentor / Tutor and I want to join Model UN.

Activities - Active Student (blood drive, bone marrow drive, emcee for an event against hunger, presentator and host for an alumni panel, fundraisers, etc.), Active member of the community (United States: Currently writing funding proposal alone for more bike racks in my town, Volunteered as a Parade Marshall / Ticket Vendor for the Fourth of July Parade, Translator - English to French - for a County program - a dean from my college recommended me to translate - , Intern at an Immigration Law Firm (June to August 2015), Video Editor and Sales Associate at a bead store // Canada: Unhappy and did not feel like I belonged, very very secluded as a child / adolescent, so I did not do a lot, but here is what I did do: member of the theatre club, active member of the community - even filmed a short video on the town fair, it was showed at one of the town meetings - , organized a human trafficking campaign with the NDP - the official federal new democratic party -, member of my high school’s video producing club)

Extra Information - My native tongue is French, but I am completely bilingual, I am seventeen and will be transferring as a junior at 18 (skipped 2 years).

What do you think guys, do you think I have a chance? Also, I am afraid of the dorm situation: I will only be 18 transferring but I am going to be a junior. Do you think I will be able to dorm with freshmen, as they are my age? I was thinking of Blach hall.

 Let me know!!

Oops, I meant “Balch Hall”.
