"Please email your acceptance into the program to
focus@duke.edu at your earliest convenience."

what does that mean?

"Please email your acceptance into the program to
focus@duke.edu at your earliest convenience."

what does that mean?

just email them and tell them that you are interested in doing the FOCUS if you actually want to do it.

i got into 20th century europe. first choice so i'm happy.

I'm going to call tomorrow to see if I can finagle my way into The Power of Ideas or Changing Faces of Russia

Shouldn't be hard considering how many people got put in russia and don't want it.

Which one were you put in?

Global Americas.... ugh

haha yea i just dropped outta russia, should be a spot for you sempitern ;)

I have a question - it says in the FOCUS pamphlet that the final course placements will be determined by the faculty. On the app, we got to choose the 2 seminar courses that we wanted to take - is it possible or very unlikely that they would change our course selections within our designated program cluster?

you can still change it

is there anywhere i can check which ones i was put in?

It looks like I probably got the ones i wanted though, since i was probably one of like 5 people to have russia as my first choice.

just call and you'll find out

On another note, does anyone know where the different FOCUSes will be living? My roommate is doing Forging Social Ideals, which means I will be living with that FOCUS, and I know we're both curious as to where we'll be living. Is it the same dorm for each FOCUS every year?

Has anyone been able to get through to the FOCUS office to find out what the options are if you were placed into a FOCUS seminar that was not one of your three choices? Is there a deadline when you need to accept or decline? At what point does being assigned to FOCUS get in the way of registering for non-FOCUS classes?

"Also, if you have not already accepted your placement in FOCUS, please send an "accept" email to focus@duke.edu by June 13."

I'm guessing your options are to either:
1) accept the focus and do it, it can't be that bad afterall, right?
2) decline it and do the normal freshman thing (though it makes me wonder what they'll do with the focus's that get less than 30)
3) try and switch to another focus - it looks like there will be plenty of spots open in a lot of the focus's (except for the science ones most people wanted)

I emailed the head of the FOCUS department to switch to another one... she said she would see what she could do. Sempitern, did you call them or email them? You're the only one I know of that has successfully completed the transition into another FOCUS.

I called the director of the program thats listed on the email and on the focus website. She informed me that the change was made and that she would email the profs to confirm it. I got the impression that the decision was final and that she was just emailing the profs to notify them.

the person I spoke too was VERY nice and helpful. I would suggest calling, its so much more efficient than trying to catch someone by email.

Hi Azmodan - is the text you quoted with the June 13th date from an email that was sent to you?

yeah... i got that quote in an email, too

i called them and they told me to email my request. it seems like they are getting lots people to switch. maybe it was b.c Sempitern called early

ha ha YES
I called the day after I got my decision
