DB4CAC, I wondered the same thing. Chessy18 posted earlier (on a different thread) that the stats came through on Twitter, and it look like @darkblade787 shift+copied that maybe. I don’t do Twitter and could not find confirmation there or on Ga Tech’s website.

Reflection
Strengths: Test Scores, GPA, Class Rank, Essays
Weaknesses: ECs (lack of leadership)
Why you think you were accepted/waitlisted/rejected: Good Scores, academics, and essays
Where else were you accepted/waitlisted/rejected: Deferred at Princeton, Accepted to the University of Michigan, might go to GT if they give me good aid.

Decision: Deferred
White Male, 4.38 GPA, ACT: 35 Eng, 34 Math, 31 Writing
Comp. Sci. Major

Dang. I did not realize Georgia Tech was this competitive (call me ignorant). Nevertheless, after reading this whole thread I feel obligated to add my ten cents.

EC’s: Frequent volunteer with local zoo (volunteer of the year) and Habitat for Humanity group. Marching band (section leader). NHS President. School Lit. Mag. staff.

Work Exp.: I spend 10+ hrs/week reading computer books ever since 8th grade. I design websites for community and school organizations, and an educational game for a teacher (although technically that was 8th grade).

APs: 5 total; AP Chem, AP Calc AB, AP Gov, AP Econ, AP Lit. [possibly 6 if school can arrange for me to take Comp. Sci. at another school—would have mentioned this if I had room.]

I believe my essay is quite strong (but who am I to judge?). I wrote in a slightly informal tone, which some people say is a no-no.

Anyway, my takeaways:
(1) More APs would help. If I had started Freshman/Sophomore year, I could have added 3 more. More APs were available through electives, but I would have had to abandon activities such as band and lit. mag. (which, frankly, will do me more good in the long run). Also, no SAT IIs. Wouldn’t have hurt.
(2) Many people have EC’s related to their major. Branch out when you can. My access to formal classes and internships is limited because of my area (which I should have emphasized).
(3) Deferred != Denied, but it still sends a certain message. I need to find some more second choices.

Honestly, reading through this, I’ve hardly seen anyone who I would consider “obviously unqualified.” We are all very strong applicants—being deferred or denied doesn’t make us any less so. Congrats to everyone admitted, and for those in my boat, we’ve still got that 13% chance to hang on to.
