No, not at all. I just was a little confused that your only EC listed in your above post was VP. Seemed a little thin to me.

Zogoto got deferred??!?!? Wow. I'm looking at his stats and I just have no clue why he was not admitted early. I mean, OK, he is an Asian with math/science talent, so maybe that didn't help him stand out. But oh my god. He may fit the stereotype on the surface but he's done so much more. I mean, all that RSI stuff? And like 4 different science projects? He may be math/science Asian but he totally stands out from other people in that group. Well, zogoto, I'm sure you'll be accepted regular.

Banana--To put it bluntly, yes. I mean it's very impredssive, sure, but be realistic. This is Harvard. How many school VPs do they get?

And I agree, if zogoto isn't accepted RD, I will be very surprised. He totally deserves it.

Hi guys, how is today going for everyone? I'm studying for a Calc BC test and it's looking pretty easy. With all the stats people post here, i'm feeling that i have 0 chance. Hahaha. It's all good. Rice is my backup...although i couldn't wait to get out of Houston.

RD we have about a 5% chance of acceptance, but in that Chi square thing we did in biology 5 percent is the limit for certainty of results. So if you twist the statement around to defy all laws of logic, everyone is guaranteed to be rejected :D Happy thoughts, happy thoughts.

Indiana University Bloomington is my backup. I'd rather be in the East, though...I'm crossing my fingers for Amherst.

Hey everyone. I posted the following in another thread, and from reading some of the newer pages in this thread, I believe it is equally relevant here. Please read the following with an open mind. I also ask that you look back through the pages in this specific thread to realize the point I'm about to address. Thanks:

Harvard is great and everything, but this isn't the first thread where I've noticed CCers making it out to be the end all and be all of the world! Harvard isn't God! Admissions decisions naturally don't just look at test scores and awards. It's the personal aspect that in many cases is the deciding factor. Did you ever stop to think that many people with perfect SATs and big-name awards can be snobby, conceited, arrogant kids? I hate when I see people's mouths drop (figuratively) on CC when a perfect SAT kid with "high caliber" awards gets rejected (or deferred for that matter)! No one stops to consider what the people are actually like in person! I've seen it all over CC. There are some really arrogant people out there and I'm not at all surprised at why many just don't make it. The most subtle hints can come out in interviews. Experienced admissions essay readers are undoubtedly adroit at finding even the most discreet ounce of arrogance on paper! Please stop to consider the whole picture. No one (except the school's admissions dept.) EVER knows exactly why an applicant is accepted, deferred, or rejected. Just let things happen as they are supposed to. I'm just tired of seeing people moan and complain about not getting in because "they deserved to." Sure, many people deserve to, but even among them, only few actually go. So just sit back and wait. If you get a likely letter, GREAT, if not - it's not the end of the world. And it won't be (hopefully) the end of the world in April either.
In any event, good luck to everyone! Sorry about the rant, but I had to get it out there. It's just so annoying to go from page to page and from thread to thread and read the same stuff! Thanks for enduring... if you did :)

Ich stimme dir zu. But do you think the admissions people can differentiate between attitude and awkwardity? On the one hand, you have people of the I-am-the-salt-of-the-earth-how-dare-you-fail-to-worship-me mindset, but then there are the I-feel-like-disappearing-into-the-ground-but-I'll-pretend-to-be-cool-because-it's-all-I-have sort. I'm (hopefully) in the latter category, and I default to assuming other people are too.

I just like Harvard because of #1) The Libraries, and #2) Boston. I really, really want to use that library and live in/near that city.

Now, what if you are the salt of the earth how dare you fail to worship me? Would espousing that mindset reflect negatively on you, or be seen simply as pragmaticism?

Hm. If you were the salt of the earth, I don't believe you would have the faculty to speak, being as you would have a crystalline shape and be sprinkled on someone's food :D

Figure of speech, my friend. It all comes down to whether Harvard expects humility when one's position/accomplishments does not necessarily warrant humility. In such a situation pragmatism would indeed preclude one from feigning humility. But then again Harvard never was a place for pragmatists. It is really for idealists.

Duality, I can assure you I meant that in jest ;)

GuitarMan, I can assure you I meant whatever it was I meant with abundant ambiguity.

But if reality is only as we perceive it, and we perceive reality in terms of idealism, then idealism is really pragmaticism, depending on how twisted you are.

Haha, tkm256, Ich stimme dir zu and I like the way you think too! I'm sorry for those who believe that a certain status never warrants humility. I beg to differ! It is those who have accomplished many admirable things and who can still remain modest and possess good character that are the most interesting to college admissions. You cannot have great accomplishments, boast, and still have good character. Many people who are like that, and do not realize it, get deferred at institutions like Harvard and later rejected. I'm sorry, but it's the harsh reality!

I was deferred, and I am happy I wasn't rejected. Hahhaha. So far...
I think some of these people feel really bad if deferred or rejected so they just try to pump themselves up. (and look arrogant).

Oh by the way guys, Happy Valentine's Day! I know this is the least thing on your mind, but share the happiness :)

haha yes, same to you! I'm busy trying to think what kind of a cupcake to get and then, how to get to a bakery to get it :p

Haha yeah, Happy Valentine's Day! That totally put a smile on my face. Thanks, CasesarsLaw. Btw, I totally agree with you. Being deferred, I felt a little bummed, but you don't see my ego swelling up from page to page! :) Take care everyone!

-Jon :D

hey zogoto have u published yet? im currently in the process with trying to publish on science journal

I have two submissions out in bioinformatics (I should be finding out about both this week, I hope), one that I'll submit by June in Comp. Sci. and one more that's part of a really large (many author) brief to Nature (which I am supposed to be working on right now heh).

I've been accepted to a conference in operations research. It was in November.
