Waitlisted. Wow, it appears I'm in some very distinguished company; zogoto, Guitarman.

We're a cool club ;)

I'm soooo excited!!! Did anyone else who applied to Harvard hear from Princeton?

OH MAN!! My financial aid package is CRAZY!! I'm getting almost $40,000!!!! Thanks be to God!!!

Congrats to those of you who got into your #1 schools!!

YEAH!! I'm going out to celebrate. Later :)

i wish i were black...

ilovecalifornia.... That's sort of an insensitive statement to just throw out there! Did you say that in response to my previous post? I'm Hispanic by the way. I'm a little disappointed in you. Why would you ever be so ashamed of your own race and want to be another?? Is it b/c of affirmative action? Are you mad b/c of decisions or financial aid? Am I totally off track here?? LOL. In any case, don't say that! :D It really surprised me to see that on the Harvard thread!

I liked it, but apparently it didn't fit their tastes. Also mailed in a supplementary essay.[/li][li] Teacher Recs: ** One was very good, one must have very good because she loves me.[/li][li] *Counselor Rec: * I didn't read it, but it was probably pretty unexceptional and standard. Each counselor has hundreds of students to take care of and probably up to 100 senior college recs to write. I know him pretty well, though, and he should have good things to say about me.[/li][li] *ECs listed on app: *[/li]Piano (10 years)

Washington[/li][li] School Type: Large public, 1800+[/li][li] Ethnicity: Chinese[/li][li] Gender: ** Female[/li][/ul]Other Factors:** Strong test scores and academic record and courseload all through high school. Weaknesses could be not enough sparkle and leadership in ECs, few high-level awards. And probably my essays did not stand out enough.
General Comments: Congrats to those admitted, and for those who didn't get in, prestige isn't all that matters and I'm sure you'll be
happy wherever you end up! Besides, wouldn't you rather go to a school that truly appreciates and values you for who you are? Remember, ** Individuals determine destinies, not institutes. ** It's been quite a ride, and I've enjoyed it with all of you!

I'm just glad my 2130 SAT has made it through another round of scrutiny (I was deferred EA). I'm preparing to make another big networking push. If there's about 450 people who wish to remain on the waitlist, anywhere between 50 and 100 getting in is pretty damn good in terms of odds...especially when you consider another 30 or so will probably get z-listed into the class of 2011.

And if not, Georgetown SFS is not a bad alternative, in fact I might stick with SFS even if I got into Harvard. Or maybe I wouldn't. We think H is exclusive with its 1680 spots... try 350 at SFS. Hahahaha. Granted only about 3000 people apply, but that group is really self-selective.

stockholmsyndrome, what do you mean by 'z-listed into the class of 2011?' Never heard that one before.

Mostly legacies, but some non-legacies, will be admitted from the normal waitlist into next year's class. In other words have their admission deferred a year, where there is room for them. Usually the number is around 20 or 30 applicants.

Harvard can do this because an equal (or greater) number of normal admits into the Class of 2011 will choose to voluntarily defer their start for a year into the Class of 2012.

Ouch, waitlisted.

I should have written my personal statement about being the only homosexual Israeli Muslim ever.

Hey apfreak, don't sweat the Harvard decision. You got into awesome schools!

Just looking at your stats, I can see that we're quite similar (aside from just our usernames). I'm also Hispanic and I'm very interested in culture and religion. I was deferred EA at Harvard and just recently rejected. However, I've been accepted into Dartmouth, Cornell, Princeton, Williams, Amherst, and a handful of other great schools.

I know I'm on the Harvard thread now, and I promise that I bear no ill-will toward the institution, but I must say: There is definitely success to be had beyond Harvard. It is not (as I once believed) the end-all and be-all of the Universe. To those of you who got in: Congratulations, you've most likely worked very hard so go in there and get that great education!! For those of us who've been rejected/waitlisted: There's much more to the world than Harvard and we all worked hard to get to where we are. We will thrive wherever we go. So don't sweat it. After all, this is just undergrad!!! Congrats to everyone!!

-Jon :D :) ;)

"Accepted to Yale, Princeton, Duke, and Cornell though :"

You're an ivy leaguer!!!!!!!!!

Yeah, something to remember, that can't be reiterated enough: Harvard is not the be-all-and-end-all and you make your own success, not the institution! If you truly wanted Harvard for Harvard then I can understand some rough feelings but if you see Harvard as the key to your success, then just realize, that has nothing to do with it :)

lol apdoolittle, calm down. i am NOT racist, and no, i wasn't responding to your post, and again, no i'm not ashamed of my own race, i was just commenting on affirmative action....its funny how 'black' is such a sensitive word. anytime someone nonblack using the world 'black' or even 'african-american' they end up sounding racist bc people in general are too quick to assume my intentions, and usually they're off.
