@cpu–applicants were able to apply to Harvard SCEA and public EA schools last year. My D, a Harvard '16er, applied EA to several publics (mostly to be considered for honors programs), none of which were in our home state.

All–I encourage you to pay close attention to EA and Priority deadlines for honors consideration. Best of luck!

bcisaidso- that’s news to me. I don’t remember that being the case. Either way, I applied RD so I didn’t pay that close attention to SCEA rules.

Congrats to your daughter, maybe I’ll bump into her on campus!

OMG our class already has a thread!?
Seems kinda soon but Im applying EA cuz well yolo and I dont wanna apply EA anywhere else.

But Im also applying to other schools RD including:
Philadelphia University, WashU, NYU, BU, Yale, Princeton, Cornell, Columbia, Hartwick, Pace, University of the Sciences in Philadelphia, Clark, Sarah Lawrence, Brown, UPenn, and Duke

The following “REACH” schools I will be applying to in order of preference (importance) are:

Harvard University

Princeton University

Yale University

Columbia University

University of Pennsylvania

Cornell University

Brown University

Stanford University

Massachusetts Institution of Technology

California Institution of Technology

Dartmouth College

*For those who have noticed, I have purposely added Dartmouth to the bottom of my list because I do not plan to attend a college, only a university. However, if I have to, Dartmouth would be the only college that I have in mind that I would attend.

What is your reasoning for college vs university? Size? Wesleyan is a university but is very small. Don’t discount a school because it has the world “college” in it, and don’t think a school is better because it has the world “university” in it.

I never thought that! I just want to go to a university. Is that a crime?

No, just wondering what your rationale was. With over 4000 colleges/universities in the US you need to start narrowing down somehow. But I do know some people who think that going to “XX University” is better than “XX College”.

Well, in your opinion, which college would you prefer for me? Which school do you currently attend? Did you apply to any Ivy League schools?

I’m pretty sure that your school is a really good school! Therefore I will definitely need you to help me!

I don’t know you personally so I cannot say which school would be best for you. I am Harvard Class of 2016. I advise you against applying to so many reach schools.

Wow! That is my number one choice dream school! Why not apply to all reach schools? The other schools that I mentioned are safeties that are granting my waived applications and scholarships. What is your homework like?

That is a lot of essays to write. After a while, you won’t be presenting your best work. And you cannot possibly like all 11 of those “reaches” plus your “safeties”. And that is a lot of application fee money even with the fee waivers.

Wait a minute! You haven’t even started yet. You are class of 2012 (high school.) Also, a friend I know, a sophomore next year, told me that there is only 2 essay you have to write in the required english class for Harvard Freshman called “Expository Writing.” A 7 page essay and a 10 page essay.

That friend of mine is a current Harvard Undergraduate. Have you received a scholarship from Harvard because I was told that there are no scholarships? What were your schools considered “safeties?”

I never said I did start. And I don’t think you should be putting your friend’s name online.

It depends on what writing class you are placed into.

There are no merit or athletic scholarships, only financial aid based on need.

Yeah, I know! I already told him I was going to put his name online and he agreed! It’s okay!

What is the first thing your acceptance letter or email stated?

Chris you’re weird.

Who are you, magentaturtle?
