Well I thought that we should have a thread dedicated especially to all the Harvard SCEA applicants out there. This would be a place to get help, get ecstatic, whine, and anything else you feel like doing in relation to your Harvard Application. I know that the Stanford 2015 REA thread got around 375 pages. Let's beat it! These next few months are going to be one heck of a ride.

@farfalla- oh come on mate, don’t characterize the “submit” button as dreaded. Grant it, it can be scary. But just keep this in mind: you’ve done your best and the button become nothing but a medium to possibly take you to greater heights.:)

Still polishing my essays and avoiding the “submit” button. All of you feel good about your application and supplement? Also, did anyone list any ECs/Awards/Test Scores that didn’t fit on the common app in the additional information? I’m not sure whether it’s supposed to be in a resume format of just a list.

I’m still really nervous…there are always like 50 kids that apply from my district each year. Not quite sure how to stand out, especially when I don’t have the kinds of accolades they do (RSI/ISEF/Siemens type people…)

Then again, I’m not even applying for math/science. If I got in, I’d probably choose government or economics as a concentration. Which majors are you guys looking at?

Applying SCEA as well (mainly because Harvard’s supplement is shorter than Caltech’s, Princeton’s, and Stanford’s).

Are you guys submitting a supplemental essay? I’ve written one but I’m debating whether or not I should send it.

Also, do any of you know if I need to have my school send an official transcript to Harvard? I’m not 100% sure if my counselor will attach one with the school report (since she’s submitting everything online). So, if I need one, where do I send it?

Will it hurt me if some things are online and other are by mail? For some odd reason, my counselor does the report by mail, and the transcript is mailed separately as well. But my teacher recs/common app/supplement are electronic.

^you should be okay, provided your documents are properly identified. I was told they scan every document they receive and attach it to the main file.

how many students do you think will apply? Last time Harvard offered EA, around 4,000-4,500 students applied early. Anyone have any guesses for this year? Will it be the same or will it be dramatically up?

@Metrical- Hey mate. Good luck with those essays. I listed my ec’s in a list format in the additional information sheet. I think its a good idea to do so because with all the recent proliferation of clubs, research, and other activities you have to tell them how what YOU do makes a different rather than presenting a generic list.

@ojod- Well I guess the only advice I can give you is to just be who you are and make sure your application reflects that. All to often, because of trying to impress the adcoms, applicants simply twist their application into something that’s not them. Their results: A nice sympathetic rejection letter.

@314- You don’t need to if you don’t feel it adds anything extra to your essay which is not presented in another part of your application. If it does present a hitherto unknown side for you then I’d say go for it. Essays really can make the difference for borderline applicants and since this is Harvard, relatively at least, quite many are borderline. For the transcript, mtrushmore is right. Send it in there.

@mtrushmore- I’d say around 5000-5500 this year. More and more people are applying to the best universities in the world.

I almost pressed the SUBMIT button thinking that it was SAVE!!! D: Even I did press it, it confirms, right? My heart still drops whenever I think about it!
I know someone who submitted his supplement and commonapp forms already…I feel so behind

Don’t feel too behind, I still haven’t submitted mine. They said they would like it in by October 15th (?) and it’s not due for another month so we have time. Just don’t leave it to the last minute. It’s better to have a polished application than be the first one to submit. :D

Gee…I haven’t even started working on my essays
I’m actually still contemplating between SCEA or RD. Does it increase your chances dramatically if you apply Early Action rather than Regular Decision? :S
I’m wondering if its worth rushing with the application right now, and prolly making a mess out of it, or applying ‘late’ and thus reducing my chances of getting in!

Still debating between Harvard and Stanford SCEA. From the looks of things it seems as though I’ll end up going with Harvard, since I STILL am revising my Stanford short answers…

Hello all!! Glad to meet all of you, albeit via antisocial means :). I’m extremely excited to apply SCEA. Just to add to the speculations about how many potential applicants there will be, I wanted to share this link with you guys: [2011 Ivy League Admissions Statistics](http://www.theivycoach.com/2011-ivy-league-admissions-statistics.html). Admissions stats from Class of 2011 (and just for the record, I’m not some sort of college crazed kid I just googled hehe). ~4,000 kids applied EA but I expect that number will be lower this year since Princeton had binding ED back then. I think it’ll be between 3,500 and 4,000 applicants and if they keep the same acceptance rate that’ll be about 800 in. Of course, that acceptance rate includes stellar athletes, legacies, and the like…but one can always dream! Good luck to you all, and I hope to see you next year.
