Just got the call in ny!!!

congrats guys!

Anyone outside of NY get a call?

Congrats guys! What did they say when they called?

Does anyone know if they call home or cell?

yeah sorry, that was for the purposes of protecting my identity–i’m actually a white male from ny, not an asian male from nc, but i didn’t want to give away who I was (a lot of kids from my school are on CC). apologies for the confusion

Anyone else gotten a call?

@MelRachel I heard it’s home phone,

oh and fyi–they called me on my cell phone at around 4:30 local time

Got the call about 30 minutes ago on the East Coast…I’m completely blown away, I wasn’t expecting it at all! Good luck to everyone, and to the other finalists, I can’t wait to meet you all in March :)

I’m only slightly ashamed to admit that I spent the last hour or so anxiously (obsessively) refreshing this thread for updates, so I feel like I should return the favor. I got the call on my cell (I’m actually still at school…extracurricular involvement ftw) and they basically just told me that I was a finalist and gave me some information about what happens next while I babbled incoherently in response.

I have no idea how STS distinguishes between all the incredible semifinalists and I certainly would never have even considered myself to be near the top forty. I think that anyone who completes independent research and takes the time to do the app deserves a TON of credit. Best of luck to those still waiting to hear, but more importantly, best of luck to everyone in your future endeavors this year. Whether STS works out for you or not, you will do amazing in other competitions and get into fabulous schools, so don’t worry about it!

Question: For those of you who got called on their cell (Sheam13 (congrats btw!) and chillin, etc, WHY did they call on your cell? I mean, do you know if they tried on your home phone first? Because the initial application said they would call the first number (presumably home #) first for all communication and would only call the 2nd number if they couldn’t get through on the first. Does anyone know if they will leave a message if they can’t get through? :-O

The certificate says that Finalists will be called (no specific date/time); I know this is a bit overly optimistic, but does anyone here believe that not everyone will be called?

@scienceman -
i think they will try to call everyone since they are putting up the names online at 7am EST.
The reason is many people could find out from having other people call them (hey, wake up, I just saw your name on the Intel site).

Any calls on the west coast, my friends?

Well, since it’s now after 8 pm on the East Coast, I’m guessing all finalists must have been notified already (at least those that could be reached via their phone numbers) and since only 2 or 3 people posted here, I guess it’s also safe to assume that most of the finalists either 1) are too busy celebrating to post on here, or 2) simply aren’t CC posters… :-(

I just received the call 10 minutes ago, and I live in CA. Looking forward to meeting the other finalists. Good luck to everyone!

for people who were called, did they ask you not to post on facebook or anything?

@a1b2c3 What is your project on? Are you from the bay area or socal?

Very nice. To those semifinalists and finalists, could you post where you did research and what area ? That’d be great.

So for the finalists, could you tell us your rank numbers on your badges? Just curious after all the debate whether they actually meant anything or not. (though I’m guessing not, but hey, you never know!)

So, it’s likely on here than no one really knows the answer to this question, but if anyone thinks they know. please answer. Just what criteria are used by the judges to go from 300 to 40 finalists? I mean, at that point, are they focused only or mainly on the research itself or do they look mainly at the essays, etc.?

Also, were the top 40 chosen at the same time the top 300 were or only recently?
