*OFFICIAL* January 28, 2006 SAT Thread

lol i was debating...over what began or what was beginning...i changed my answer at least 4 times. there was a hole in my answer sheet at the question ;)

do any of you guys remember the prompt? I think I wrote about a different topic

it is also II because

( x-1 o x+1 ) = (x-1)(x+1) + x+1 + x-1 = x^2 +2x -1
( x o x ) - 1 = x^2 + x + x -1 = x^2 + 2x - 1

so they are equal

it was also 1 because

( x o y ) = xy + x + y
( y o x ) = yx + y + x

but not III because

( x o y+z) = xy + xz + x + y + z
( x o y ) + ( x o z) = xy + x + y + xz + x + z

^there is an extra x in the second one

This section couldn't have been experimental; everyone had this question. I had sections 5 and 6 as the two 20 question math sections.

i thought had begun was only acceptable if you were referring to something that happened before something else happened. in this case it seems like the hopelessness happened after the tapping.

@ivy league

that question was not experimental.

anyways i think the question was

"Only after tapping into their energy reserves were the team members able to save what was beginning to look like a lost cause"

and i put down E. ugh.

That was NO ERROR because there is nothing wrong with "what was beginning" , although you can put "had begun".

the question did not have "into." that was what made me wonder.

For the hotel one, I got three. It seemed to be the only one possible, did anyone else get that? Sorry, if it's been asked already, but I'm too alzy to flip back and search every page.

@escius

what was the question then?

@seth blue

yes. and i think that was the 4th time that was asked. (just click search :))

@ivyleague

what question are you talking about? the ( x o y ) definitely isn't experimental

slurpz-- If people who had 4 CR sections , and had that question then it def. can't be experimental.

slurpz

it went like:

"Only after tapping their energy reserves were the team members able to save what was beginning to look like a lost cause"

Seth blue, the answer was indeed 3. Congrats!

I'm talking about the (x o y) question. by the was "it was beginning" was NO ERROR.

About the "what was beginning" issue - my friends says that it should be "had begun" because you can't salvage something that was BEGINNING to look like a lost cause. =/ I hope he's wrong?

@escius

tapping their energy reserves doesn't make sense though. think about it. would you tap into oil deposits? or tap oil deposits

I put no error for that one. The tapping one.

Btw, how do you guys think the difficulty of this Sat's CR sections compares with that of previous ones yuo've done?

pretty easy. the error id was easy except for like 3 questions. the math was by far the hardest one i've taken (practice or otherwise) but was still pretty easy.

Thanks, Julina, I didn't find the hitel too difficult, but I couldn't get my mind around the question with the polygon and the paper.

I thought the math was extraordinarily easy. I made some careless mistakes, however.

How many NO ERRORs did you guys have in total?

someone should find an example with just tapping (noun).

julina,
was beginning is acceptible because it is still refering to past tense
