OFFICIAL Johns Hopkins Class of 2015 ED Results Thread

A year ago yesterday, I received my email titled, “Congratulations from Johns Hopkins University.”

Now I’m sitting in my warm bed, looking outside onto the AMR 1 courtyard thinking about how much I don’t want to walk to FFC in the snow. I’m done with finals, slightly hungover, and thinking about how all of my friends and I are going to celebrate the end of (most) finals tonight.

It seems like so far from now, but soon enough you’ll be unpacking and meeting everyone, and your first semester will be gone in a flash. Enjoy the rest of your senior year (getting into college really cuts down on the amount of work you have to do), have an amazing graduation, make the summer count, and take lots of pictures along the way.

Congradulations from Johns Hopkins Class of 2014 :)

gtgen:

Can you walk down the hall and make sure my son is awake and not going to sleep through his last final which starts in 13 minutes?

o Common App Main: 8.5, strong but not the most memorable/emotional.
o Supplement #1: 8.
o Supplement #2: 6.5, fairly average.

Reflection

* Strengths: Jobs and volunteering, ACT score, and Common App essay.

 • Weaknesses: GPA, no sports, and supplement essay.
 • Why you think you were accepted/deferred/rejected: Oh man, I have no idea why I was accepted… lol. Probably because I have a few different things I do as opposed to one interest.
 • What would you have done differently?: Worked harder on the supplements, found a way to do more AP’s last year. Although since I did get in, probably nothing.

[/list]Other Factors:
General Comments/Congratulations/Venting/Commiserations, etc: Congrats to the class of 2015, I can’t wait to see you all next August!

uhmmmmmmmmmm am i like the only rejected? great

2110 superscore and 3.9 w gpa (probably the reason why)

Deferred… I don’t feel like copy pasting the thing since I didn’t even get in and my stats won’t matter that much BUT here’s a couple of things~
SAT: 770M 750CR 750W (2270)
SATII: 790 Math 2, 740 Bio E
GPA: 3.8/4.0 4.21/5.0 (but this is messed up because I transferred schools and got regular credit instead of honors, etc. for my 9th and 10th grade classes… so it should technically be around 4.7-4.8. my counselor wrote about it in her rec)
Classes: Uhm, like 10 APs? The rest are honors and GT. I’ve taken all of the AP Sciences, yada yada yada
Extracurriculars: President of STEM club and Captain of Science Olympiad team, which I’ve been a part of since freshman year in my old school and basically started the team in my new school.
Treasurer of Project Sunshine club, it’s a service club for children in hospitals
NHS, KEY Club, Tutoring, Red Cross, Art Club etc. etc. It’s obviously been hard for me to get leadership positions since I transferred to this school RIGHT before junior year. Grr
Volunteer: I’ve volunteered at 2 hospitals and taught English to kids in China over the summer, MANY service clubs, blahh…
Work: Model at Abercrombie
Recs should have been pretty goood… hm what else. idk.

My main thing was probably that I moved in the middle of high school… that probably messed me up because my grades dropped as a result. I mean, seriously though, my GPA dropped to a 3.8 which isn’t THAAAAT horrible for someone who transferred into one of the most competitive schools in Maryland. ■■■.

What bothers me a lot… is that my school is EXTREMELY competitive and naturally we have many students who are 3.8+ and 2250+ with amazing ec’s and all, but no one’s been getting into their early schools. The counselors at my school are seriously starting to worry since they’re even surprised with these decisions.
blah.

I also made the mistake of applying BME… my chances would’ve been better if i just applied for something less competitive. I mean yeah yeah yeah they say the major doesn’t matter, but lol… seriously.

Decision: Accepted

To those deferred or rejected:
Don’t loose hope! You still have wide array of opportunities and explorations ahead of you! In fact, you should be happier than us in a way that we are limited to attending Hopkins (even though we believe it is the first-choice for us like you do) while you get to have a second thought and apply to those other great universities.
True, Hopkins was your first-choice… but don’t let that get you away from focusing on your application for other colleges. It’s not the end of the world ;)
