i got accepted but i'm still waiting on the official letter! :(

I got my beautiful rejection letter today. I guess the university should be sending out all of its letters in the course of the next few days.

All letters were put in the mail on Friday.

My likely letter came today (was sent march 2nd) so I don’t think my admissions package will even come before I have to decide on a school. But I am an international so its different for me

i got my official letter yesterday! i’m an international too but i live in the States.
they scanned the official letter and package and emailed to all the international students. so you should check your email!

My D received her official rejection letter from UVA today, and included in the letter was a suggestion she apply as a transfer student next year? Did everyone who was rejected receive such a letter? It struck me as very odd that they would suggest a transfer after a year somewhere else. Do they really have that many open spaces after freshman year? My assumption would be their retention rate would be pretty high.

oldladymom, UVa accepts several hundred transfer students every year. While it is a fantastic institution, it’s not for everyone, and sometimes students can’t handle the cost, academic rigor, or it just isn’t the right environment for them. There are not a lot of available spaces, but I also don’t know how many people get letters suggesting they transfer.

Retention rates are very high (usually in the 90s). We build a certain number of transfers into the population.

I still haven’t gotten my letter in the mail!

^ me neither :(

My son got his denial letter on April 1:(

My daughter also got a similar letter. Reading from notes from other students at USC, similar letters wer also given out to them. What does it mean? How early can one transfer to U.Va.?

Still no letter ?! :(

I still haven’t received my package either… it’s been pretty long.
p.s. I know I live in Canada, but it’s just across the border, right?

I am interested to know what everyone likes most about UVA…students, parents, or
prospective parents. Also, maybe what you do not like.

^ start a new thread and you will get more responses! :)

Those of you concerned about the formal letter should call the office and talk to the receptionists. I can’t do anything via College Confidential about this. Sorry!

I got a letter a week ago a little disappointed that UVa doesn’t send a ‘packet,’ :D

There is another explanation for the large number of transfer students: Those students’ SAT scores are not included in the statistics for the freshman class. If there is an appicant who has a 1200 SAT, say, accepting him as a freshman lowers the official average SAT score whereas accepting him as a transfer does not. Some schools guarantee the right to transfer under certain conditons.

You need to contact the Office of Admission. Posting here, unfortunately, won’t get a letter sent. The email address is on the bottom of every page of the Office of Admission website.
