Official May Sat Math Discussion

likeateusday:I got 28 for that

you have 25 negatives and 2,8, and 32

elliott: I also thought it was consecutive but then reread it and realized that it did not specify

If anyone else can verify that this was the question please.....

A sequence of numbers continues as follows 1,2,2,3,3,3,4,4,4,4,5,5,5,5,5, etc., What would the sum of all the previous terms be when the first 12 appears in the sequence?

Um guys, I got one. You can have any number of negative integers, then have one large positive one at the end to make it equal zero.

-It asked for position for 12 not the sum. Search the thread and you'll find out the answer is 67
^^elliot it asked for positive integers only ( ithink)

-@likeatuesday its 28

Oh yea for that one i think i put none

For the problem asking to find the value of "m" with:
(x-8)(x-k) = x^2 -5x + m
I got 24. What about everyone else?

its 16. You must expand left hand side and equate the variables.

Atomic is right it was 16.

Plug it in, considering that 8k=m

Really, i am pretty certain that the answer is 24?

Did you un-distribute to find that k=3 and then plug it in?

K=-2. The answer was 16.

Was this equation correct:
(x-8)(x-k) = x^2 -5x + m

Or was it actually this:
(x-7)(x-k) = x^2 -5x + m

(X - 8)(X - 3) does not equal X^2 - 15X + M

K should be two. The answer is 16.

I don't remember but I think I got 8 or 16. W/e this thread is making me nervous lol.

k =2
answer was 16

ok i'll do it out for you you bulbasaurian bastard

(x-8)(x-k)=x^2 - 5kx + m
if you factor the right you'll have (x-a)(x-b) where ab=m and a + b = 5k
then you realize that a and b are 8 and k
so you get 8 + k = 5k, k=2
8*2=16

who cares wat u think u remember getting, can someone just verify the asnwer, even if they have to do it over again?

what was the ribbon one
like u have 80 cm ribbon
if u cut out these triangles, what is the total lengths of the darkened ridges

i got 100
but then i realized i messed up and re did it and got like 96 i think

it could have been 0+0+0...no?
i put one as well, but i guess that's wrong, the answer should be none
dammit

it's 100 tencharacters

proscastinate, that's clever but i think they maybe said different integers

guys..i am pretty sure it was 130..
i read the problem 6 times..i don't see how it can be 90..=.=
