***Official McGill University Class of 2020 Results Thread***

Hey everyone! I couldn’t find a thread for results for the class of 2020 so I decided to create one. Good luck to all applicants! Here’s the format:

Remove the spaces after each initial bracket.
For example, change [(space) text] to [(no space) text] before posting. If you aren’t sure of the format, click “preview” before you submit. The decision should be in color, and there should be bullet points for each of the qualifications given.

@marvelousmars I have applied, but am waiting to submit my midyear reports once they become available. I also live in Ohio. Small world! I hope to hear back from McGill quickly. Congrats guys!

@margotisntmyname I hope you get in! It would be really nice to know someone before university starts.

Since when does subjective stuff (like extracurriculars and recommendations) matter for McGill? If they do this year, where are we supposed to express all of the subjective things listed here?

Last year’s thread has this format (only objective stats were discussed):

[ size=+2][ color=green][ b]Decision: Accepted
[ size=+2][ color=orange][ b]Decision: Waitlisted **
[ size=+2][ color=red][ b]Decision: Rejected **

[ *] IB (place score in parenthesis):

If you are applying for a major scholarship then the subjective stuff is required (separate application).

Reflection
Strengths: My GPA and overall courseload, many classes taken at local ivy league college
Weaknesses: My ACTS weren’t that great
Why you think you were accepted/deferred/rejected: strengths I stated + I applied super early
Where else were you accepted/deferred/rejected: no other early applications so I haven’t heard back yet

General Comments: Just wanted to say that the McGill application process is a little confusing. For all those who haven’t heard back or are generally confused by all the different application statuses, I feel you. I got an email yesterday saying I needed “additional files.” Turns out they wanted my first quarter senior grades (not midyear, they specified first quarter which was strange) and I submitted them this morning. This afternoon I checked back to make sure it had gone through (there was shoddy internet connection) and I had already been accepted! It was probably only about 6 hours after I had put in my grades. Never heard of this happening before, but the whole process with McGill is very random from what I have read up on. I thought I would share my experience because yesterday while I was searching the forums it seemed that many had to wait a long time to get results despite seeing promising application statuses and I was very disheartened. I want to let people know that there is another side. Also, no email was sent to say I was admitted so check Minerva often! Congrats to all those who got in and good luck to those who haven’t heard yet!

[ *] Weaknesses:
[ *] Why you think you were accepted/deferred/rejected: They asked me to upload my second quarter grades, then they will further review the app
[ *] Where else were you accepted/deferred/rejected: deferred from case western, northeastern, accepted to University at Buffalo
[ *] Where else are you applying for RD:
[ /list]

[ b]General Comments:**

Dude, you weren’t deferred. They make their decision after you upload second quarter grades.

It said my app was reviewed- pending decision then to awaiting further action

Waiting to hear back after my 1st semester grades are submitted. I have high test scores but a very low CGPA because of my freshman year (really nice that they don’t look at freshman year grades). Hoping McGill & UofT accept me based on high grades in the subject and related subjects to what I plan on majoring in (Russian/Russian Studies/IR) or maybe Visual Studies at UofT if I want to transfer programs as a freshman. Best of luck to all!

Oh, and to add to the theme of this being a stats comparison, I’ll add that of my friend who was accepted. Same US public high school that I go to, only she applied in October. 3.8 GPA, 2100 SAT, 34 ACT - stronger stats than mine, but I believe she applied as an undecided major, and actually doesn’t have that much interest in going to McGill. It was more of a safety for her.

Does it take longer for them to review an international student’s grades ? I am from Singapore Polytechnic. Haven’t heard from McGill since Sep when I submitted my application.
