Agh...four more months

Rainynightstarz,
YES. Send a letter. Those are important leadership skills! (Can anyone tell I'm still sitting on pins and needles waiting for DS to check for a decision...)

Oliviam12...Someone posted the Deferred letter which mentioned about 500 offers for >3900 applicants. 500/3900 is 12.8%, which won't be exact but is probably in the ballpark. I seem to recall it was 11-something last year...

i was kind of hoping to get in...our school generally sends like 2-4 ppl to MIT, and i thought i was one of the most competitive in my class...but i guess our class totally sucks or something, considering that like everyone got rejected/deferred from stanford, mit, penn, etc.

[]Essays: Pretty Good
[]Teacher Recs: Should've been good.
[]Counselor Rec: Good, atlked a lot about my leadership.
[]Supplementary Material: I think i got a good rec from my xc coach because he talked about how I wasn't the best runner, and this was one of the few thigns iw asn't good at in life, but I worked hard regardless. I can work through disappointments.

[li]Advice? Commiserations? Feel like bragging?: I think my Boys State Governorship really clinched it. Theres only one a year. Also I had some extracurricular leadership that probably made me stand out. I didn't just paly sports but I was a captain in a lot of them and Boys State helped that too.
[/li]

What I tried to show in my application/interview/essay/recs was my match potential. I did my best to "fit" what MIT wanted in a student, but I didn't do it JUST to fit MIT, they were thigns taht are true about me that I tried to show them to the best that I could. I showed them that I'm a good student, but that I've gone through failures. In my interview i explained why I wanted to go to MIT and what it would mean to me but that I'm also a normal kid. In the explain what you like to do for fun section, i didnt talk about research or anything, I said I like to hang out with my friends. Be yourself, show that you match Good luck! [/ul]

^^^ My son also got deferred with a 36 ACT. Guess we know now MIT doesn't like the ACT.
