And Perrizzaman of course. You guys are all amazing.

The worst part is that I don’t feel free to bother the GCs or principal about this because when they have a set way of doing things (and they always do), questioning it tends to upset them. You never know how that might affect the tone of the recommendation letters, etc. I was even leery of asking about it in an easy conversational way. I did, but couldn’t bring myself to pursue it further when they claimed not to have materials.

Applications are completed online, you will need the unique ID and password assigned to your student. Others have said the bulk of the application should take about 30 minutes. Have resume ready, as it asks for EC, jobs, awards, etc. There allow limited space, so students might have to pick and choose what to list.

Thanks to OhMyDD85 who posted the essay prompts on another thread:

Describe an experience you have had, a person who has influenced you, or an obstacle you have overcome. Explain why this is meaningful to you.

The response has to fit in their box, but does not apparently indicate character limits. Estimated to be about equivalent to one page.

Does anyone know where the magic list is for schools that give full rides to NM FInalists?
S just got the info from GC about making SF, we are sure he’ll get the paperwork in on time, etc etc, for Finalist designation in February.

Anyone been through this process before? We have not.

We’ve also had major financial trauma (who hasn’t, really) and need to look seriously at a new list of schools (intead of his faves… U of Chicago and Columbia) for him to consider…

S wants to major in International Affairs/Public Policy and also some kind of Engineering or Physics and also (maybe) Econonmics. He plans to double major. Any advice on schools that have good programs in 2 of his interests AND/OR also give free rides to NM Finalist?

What do people usually do in this situation…? Wait for the schools to contact them?

I would like to be a little more proactive.

Note, in particular, the now apparently erroneous listing for FL and the misread on MA. It’s like they’re copying off of our test (without attribution, of course).

It is a nice find, however, in that the historical data reveals that although the scores this year are low they are within historical precedent.

(Note: I expect at some point they will update their numbers and the current uncanny match with our data will no longer be obvious.)

Most “paperwork” is now on-line. From the NMF side you basically fill it out, submit it by the deadline, and there is no more to do (well, make sure your HS gets its paperwork in on time, too). From the college app side you have to make sure you follow each schools rules with regard to NM scholarships. Most simply want you to declare them “first choice” by April but a few have special deadlines. Maybe Mom2CK, who is more expert in this, will have more to say.

jubilee27 - (Assuming you are now a HS senior and took the test as a junior) The College Board does not notify you. Your high school should and probably will on or before Sept. 12, the day names of qualifiers are released to the press. If you are not notified by then call the National Merit Scholarship Corporation office and verify your eligibility.

Great SAT scores. Depending on where you apply you may do very well scholarship wise. Many schools give great scholarships with your scores. Good Luck!
